This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.
If you want to know more about the rules, visit this week's post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.
I am so grateful that we still have the ability and the freedom to get out and just enjoy the beauty and calmness of nature around us.
We've got a couple of hectic weeks behind us and are still dealing with some issues as we speak. Our oldest daughter's husband has tested positive for Covid and they had to isolate for two weeks. Yesterday was their last day of isolation and he seems to be doing fine. So, that seems like one thing we can now also put behind us...
But that meant that we could not see them for the past two weeks. On Sunday afternoon we spent some time at our youngest daughter's place though and had a nice family braai (barbeque as I think most of you would know it...).
Monday, being a public holiday, Elmarie and I decided to head out to the Valley of a Thousand Hills and just spend some quality time together.
I decided to pay a visit to the Pot and Kettle Coffee Shop.
On our way there, I decided to take a little detour through an area called Waterfall, from where I wanted to get a photo or two of the valley from the opposite side first.
I took these first two photos from there.
From there, we left for the Pot and Kettle.
On the same property as Pot and Kettle, there are some nice curio shops with a real "Africa feel"...a very popular tourist attraction.
We first had a nice stroll around and then a nice walk behind these little shops, enjoying the spectacular views of the Valley of a Thousand Hills.
The first photo shows the typical character and "feel" of the curio shops you can find here.
Looking to the left, you can take a little walkway passing through between some of these shops and a little restaurant to the left, from where you can have a full view of the valley.
Walking down the walkway, this is the first glimpse of the valley below.
Getting the bigger picture.
Walking down further, I liked this view.
Then getting a more clear view.
The next photo was taken a bit later in the afternoon, but I loved the contrast of the depth of the valley against the green right in front of me...
The next photo is coming back up with the little walkway, walking up the stairs towards the curio shops.
More curio shops at the top.
After this we went to the Pot and Kettle to have some gingerbeer and nice scons for the late afternoon... But I'll share more about that part of our walk and the awesome views in next week's #wednesdaywalk post...
So that's it for today, folks.

We love going to the Valley of a Thousand Hills. It's always very peaceful out that way.
I did get the feeling it is so peaceful and calm there
😉👍
The Valley of a Thousand Hills is one of my favourite spots; so many places to visit! You should try going to the 1000 Hills Chef School just a little way past the Pot & Kettle, in Wooten Rd. They're only open from Friday to Sundays, have a little microbrewery as beer brewing is part of the students' curriculum, and one can do a beer tasting at the restaurant, which has seating in various parts of the premises. I always pop into their shop and take home some sourdough or ciabatta bread made by the students.
Your photos are really stunning and shows the hills off beautifully.
Yes, the 1000 Hills Chef School is awesome. I took my wife there for breakfast on our wedding anniversary. I didn't know about the beer tasting though...that's also interesting.
Thank you for your nice and encouraging comment about my photos, I do appreciate it!
