Our Wednesday Nature Walk

We have planned to visit several trail and creek spots this Summer. Technically this walk took place last weekend but I wanted to share it today with the Wednesday Walk Community initiated by @tattoodjay.

Purpose:

#1 - To get the kids out of the house to enjoy nature; they are always asking to explore the woods

#2 - For exercise and better health; we always talk about how we need to get out and walk more

#3 - To scope out new places for photoshoots; we need more places lined up to take client photos.

We started out last weekend with visiting a conservation area near us. We got geared up with water, bandaids for scrapes, essential oils for bug bites and a few other necessities.

We got onto the mowed path and began our journey.

It was somewhat hot weather out but not too unbearable. There was a bit of cloud cover which helped quite a bit. There were several tall trees grouped together outside of the path.

Of course we heard and saw plenty of insects but I kept my cool with the bees. I really wanted us to get through the whole walk so I remained strong and didn’t even run from any. 😄

Funny story, my husband thought he found a new species of butterfly. We saw what looked like some type of quadrupled winged butterfly flying through the air only to realize once we got closer it was two butterflies mating. 😂

Some interesting wild plants where also spotted. It looks like this one may bloom something soon.

Our goal was to make it to a creek that was located at this place. We were going to allow the kids to explore, get their feet wet and see if this could be a potential location for our photography business. I must say we weren’t very impressed with this one for the latter purpose.

We are glad for the exercise opportunity as it was good to get out of the house and move around.

See, I told you I was calm about the bees. I took this next photo as proof. 😁

After walking for quite some time our little ones were beginning to complain about being tired and ready to go home. Lol, yeah it figures. My three year old ended up pitching back rides for the duration of our walk.

Once we reached this area we could view a long path ahead to what we weren’t sure of. I knew the creek was somewhere along this path but we decided to turn back and get the kids home. I didn’t have the energy to carry anyone else on my back and from the looks of it my five year old was going to be the next one riding.

If you look close at the next photo you can see a small amount of water and rocks. I think this leads up to the bigger creek but we may never know (don’t plan on going back to this one).

Since this walk we have pulled off 3 ticks. My youngest daughter, middle son and husband each had one on them. We didn’t realize they were there until two days later. We’ve been checking periodically just to make sure we didn’t miss any.

That’s one of the unfortunate things about going into nature is what you might bring back with you…or actually on you 😥. My kids weren’t too thrilled about the ticks and are okay if we never visit a trail again. It may be a little while but I’m sure we’ll still venture out to another one.

I admit, the job of pulling off ticks sucks. I hate that it hurts when pulling them off but I try to get as close to the skin as possible so I won’t have little pieces of it’s mouth to dig out later.

This concludes our walk experience. Hopefully next time I’ll be able to share some water shots with you from a better creek location. I need to recover from this tick pulling so don’t expect another walk post anytime too soon. 😜

All photos are my own and were taken with our Cannon EOS Rebel T6.

Whaaaaaaaaaaat?!!!! Everything is so GREEN! I always forget what a really green, wet area looks like. Although I grew up in this type of area I've lived in semi desert terrain for so long I am always shocked by how lush the rest of the world looks. What an amazing outing for the kids. I love that you (also) take essential oils along with you @crosheille! My type of mama. We also did a walk recently. But not on wednesday and not exactly a walk.....

Trying to catch up now that my laptop is repaired but I can't wait to share some more photos of Africa!

IMG_0232.JPG

Haha yes it was green for miles around. Oh yea that makes sense when you live in that type of environment for so long.

Aww thanks. Gotta have those oils when out like this, you just never know.

Oh my goodness I love this giraffe photo! Thanks for sharing it! I look forward to seeing more!! 😃

I’ll be visiting you soon to see what else you’ve been up to.

Taking a walk with the kids always turns into a treasure hunt with nature! Hehe Did I tell you that you cannot ID butterflies for me? :) That was so funny, I really got a smile out of that one. We have all been there before. Ooops!

That was awesome about the bees and your nonreactionary thoughts. So much easier to write about it than do it, but, you did it! The picture proves it all!

Milkweed. That plant that looks like it will bloom into something someday? It is milkweed and will have a white and purple flower when it is in peak show. The other pretty yellow one with the bee on it? It looks like wild fennel, but hard to tell with only the flowers and no stalk.

I have had to carry more kids than I care to admit, all for the love of the walk. Or volksmarching in Europe. They are organized walks and very popular.

Sorry about the ticks, one of the biggest reasons I no longer run off into the woods like I used to. I remember as a kid, not thinking twice about it and it was rare for us to get a tick. What gives? When we were hiking in the woods and the kids got a tick on them. I lit a match and blew it out, then brought it close (but not touching) to the area of the tick. They will immediately back out and then you can grab it. I never let the kids look so they don't get panicked by the match. That has always been the tried and true way, leaving no parts behind.

I expect it to be a while before you go again... but, this certainly was a lot of fun!

🤣🤣🤣

Right! Please don't ask me to ID any type of butterfly lol! Hilarious!! So glad I made you smile on that one. 😁

Thank you! I’ve really been practicing being still and calm and even watching them more. It’s interesting how they move.

Oh so cool! Thanks for identifying the milkweed for me. I found them to be very pretty.

Their little legs get worn out much quicker. My little were finding it hard to keep up after awhile.

I’m so glad you said rare. I honestly NEVER EVER have had a tick on me and we used to live in the woods and even run around in the sewers back then. Why are ticks so prevalent now?

Whoa thanks for sharing this method of removal. However, I will admit I am not sure I can handle seeing their little bodies crawl out of someone’s skin 😬😧🫢🫣. When I remove them I immediately toss them in the toilet so I won’t have to look at them lol. What to do once it’s out and crawling on the floor?!! Yikes!! Just the other day my son found one on our floor and it took my husband forever to take it out because they are so tough. What’s crazy is even though I’m terrified I do kind of want to see this reaction to the heat. 👀

Thanks for such a valuable comment full of information!! You Rock!! 🤩💓🌸

first off its refreshing to read that your children are asking to get out for walks, my grand daughter always has some form of excuse if I ever suggest she goes on a walk with me.

LOL about the new species of butterfly, but to be honest I have been fooled in the same way LOL

you caught such beautiful images a pity you didnt find good spots for photo shoots

This morning I picked up some OFf insect spray, as I thought if I keep exploring the trails here I will get caught by ticks one day,

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

Hahaha yea I am glad they do show interest in taking walks. This is one of the reasons I've had to fight my fear of creatures insects which has been good. ☺️

Really? You have? Oh I’m actually relieved to hear that lol!! We’re not the only ones who’ve been fooled. 😅

Thank you so much. I was happy to capture some images to share. Hopefully we can find some good photo spots on the next round.

You did a smart thing. That was my next idea, to get some spray before our next walk. We literally let them explore in the tall grass for just a few seconds but that’s all it took. I don’t understand why there are soooo many ticks nowadays. We barely ran into any back then. 🤷🏽‍♀️

It was a pleasure joining. Thanks for having me JJ and thanks for your comment on my post ~

Ohh yes infact I was totally fooled once, years ago I took a photo of a cool butterfly with what I thought were unique wings and share dit with a friend, who pointed out to me it was to butterflies doing what they do LOL

I have heard many say recently how ticks are so bad this year, so always good to take precautions

totally my pleasure to visit your post

Hahaha wow! Thanks for sharing that!! 😂

Yes I will do so from now on.

☺️

ME to I have OFF spray in my camera bag now :)

Haha nice! You're already prepared :D

Lovely green, stunning butterfly and did I spy mulberries up in the tree?

Grass in summer always a problem with picking up hitch-hikers you will know soon enough if you removed them properly.... or suffer the headache 🙃. For me it was an all over body rash, been there twice they say three times and they don't affect you, I am not so sure about that.

!BEER for effort at the end of the day, no site suitable a good walk nonetheless.

The green was so bright and gorgeous! Yep, you did! We didn’t eat any though.

My son said he felt dizzy yesterday so that did concern me. He seems to be okay today though but I’m keeping an eye on him. 😟

Oh gosh a body rash. I guess depending on the type of tick and the person it bites. 😬🫣

Thanks so much. It was a good walk even with the hitchhikers we bought back home.
🫤😉

It looks delightful, hitch-hikers finding their way onto you one never anticipates. Hope you are all OK after the walk and it does not put you off going back.

Thank you. We’ll just take a break to recover and then get back to it again :D

Hope you find lovely area to use for photography. Have a wonderful day.

Thanks I hope so too!

Enjoy your day ~

Great photos! That tree was covered with mulberries! Did you guys eat some? We have a tree here, but I planted it about a year ago, so it doesn't bear many berries! So sorry about the ticks. That's terrible - nasty little creatures! I'm glad you guys had fun though!

We didn't eat them. I think at that point everyone was done with what nature had to offer. 🤣🤣

Thanks. It put a damper on their excitement but at least they now know this is what they have to face if ever exploring the woods too. It’s funny because I am so terrified of removing them but I know I can’t leave them in my kids so it forces me to be strong. 😄💪🏽

I have had my hubs do the tick pulling before. Those things are creepy! We do hikes around here, but we haven't heard of people getting ticks...I just notice them on the cows. Hopefully you can do some more nature walks that are tick-free in the future.

Yes they are pretty creepy! Something so tiny freaks me out quite a bit :D

Thanks, I hope so too. We just have to be careful where we walk next time and not let the kids venture into tall grass.

Lol ooops, didn't mean to upvote my own comment lol. 🤭

Wow🤭, such beautiful nature you captured here ma. I love them💞

If not for the ticks that interfered and got you people frightened, the walk would have been more fun but I am sure you and your kids still had a wonderful nature exploration. Maybe in the next round, you will go prepared against the ticks in the wood🤩🤩

Thank you @nkemakonam89! ☺️

Yes, thankfully it still was a nice walk. We will be more prepared next time and not venture into any tall grass.

I can imagine the fun you and the kids had. Walking with kids is amazing. Did they ask plenty of questions? They are usually inquisitive

It was a fun outdoor adventure :D

Oh yes, lots of questions for sure. Walking makes for good teachable moments ~

Am pretty sure the children enjoyed every part of the outing and also lovely pictures captured as well.

Yes they did!

So glad you liked the photos, thank you :D

It's a pleasure, I like every part of the shot

Sorry to hear about the ticks… they are just 😖😖😖

The walk did take you through a beautiful area, so green… thanks for sharing.
Have a wonderful Wednesday 👋🏻☀️

Thanks. Yes, they are exactly as you expressed lol. 😫

It wears me out looking for them and removing them but I guess it's a part of exploring nature we have to deal with. 🫣

It was really beautiful. We did enjoy being outdoors for sure.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting . I hope your Wednesday is wonderful ~

You are welcome @crosheille 😁

I so can imagine… 😣

Nature and being in fresh air is just so healing… healthy and beautiful.
So far it’s great… hope yours too!

It truly is healthy and beautiful!

That's good to hear! Mine is going great so far too! 😉

Great 😁👋🏻 Let’s continue… ☀️🤗

For sure!! ☺️🤗🌻

👋🏻🌻💃🏻

The plants are so stunning. I hope to walk my kids around too like this someday... but hehe, not showing the tick part.. lol

I'm glad you liked the plants. Lol yes if you do please avoid the ticks. 🥴😄
