Definition of the island: a piece of land, smaller than a continent, surrounded by water. Water is a passion of mine, except drinking water which I systematically forget to drink, ignoring all the advice of doctors and the results of my tests. Tests that tell the truth every time.
From the definition of the island it results that there I can find the most water, I mean sea and ocean water. I also have a favorite island, and it's the only one I have ever visited, the island of Thassos in Greece. Wonderful island, I've been there three times and I can't get enough of it. I will never get tired of it!
For the last two years, I haven't set foot on the island because of the pandemic. To quench my longing I often go for a walk in the biggest park in Bucharest, Herastrau Park, where there is a very, very small island on the lake in the middle of the park.
This is, of course, an excuse to take a walk in the park.
Bucharest, which is the capital of Romania, is crossed by two rivers. One is the Dambovita, which runs through the city center and the other is the Colentina, which runs through the northern part of the city. Colentina doesn't cross the city as such, like a river. A series of lakes have been created from the waters of this river, lakes that flow from one to the other and almost all of them have a park around them. At one such crossing I entered the Herastrau Park for the walk I am narrating here today for you.
Wednesday Walk, believes that this is how each of us walks too with each post we read!Because @tattoodjay, the one who imagined and built this community,
These lakes, small pieces of nature thrown into this crowded and polluted city, are also places where many waterfowl gather, especially wild ducks. These ducks caught my eye as soon as I got close to the lake, ducks resting, probably after eating or waiting for walkers to come and feed them.
Wild Ducks
This park, Herastrau, besides being the largest park in the city, has something special. On the shores of the lake, there are many terraces and restaurants, clubs, water sports clubs, and tennis courts. One of these terraces, the most recently built, caught my attention with its special architecture. I tried to take a few pictures, but they don't show much because it can only be seen from the water.

The stated purpose of this walk... I forgot to say that almost always my walks have a purpose, beyond the utility of the walk itself. Most of the time, the purpose is found at the end of each walk and it means a coffee, a coffee at a favorite café.
This time the goal was the island. I wanted to see more of the island, an artificial island and one that walkers have no way of getting to. It is populated, probably, with birds and small water animals.
Only fishermen can reach the island because they have boats. Professional fishermen. The lake is full of fish.
The Island
Island, a piece of land, smaller than a continent, surrounded by water... Now it was just a tiny island in a small lake in the middle of a city. Before leaving the park, one last look at...
Lake
I'll say it again and again, I've found that my main activity lately is... walking. Like all of you, I love to walk, but only now I have realized that walking has become my main mode of relaxation. Slowly, slowly overtaking the other pleasures I still have.
The explanations are these, among others... age, the need to do at least some semblance of sport, the pandemic. There's probably more but I can't identify it now.

I love that little island sure it isn’t in Greece but these days we have to take what we can get
Those buildings by the lake is a nice setting for coffee or food and you got good shots of them
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
You're right, we have to take what we can get, it's good we still have what.

Want to have your post on the map too?
I really like that little island! I have to wonder why they constructed it? Perhaps for a place the animals/birds could nest peacefully? Or just for beauty? /whatever the reason, it looks nice out there. You truly have some of the nicest green spaces for a big city. Has it always been this nice? I realize that Romania is all about giving its people a space to walk and enjoy life.
The walkway lined with bistros, cafes, and places to eat is very nice and fashionable in looks. Looks like a perfect #WednesdayWalk! I hope you got your reward at the end of the walk.
Hi, Dan! @bluemoon
Who, these days, doesn't want to live on an island @bluemoon? I know it isn't funny but the way you speak about loving water except to drink, I had a laugh. So many love water - it is soothing, peaceful, unchanging and yet putting it in our body is an area that many battle with
