By Night

in Wednesday Walklast month

I remember, with increasing difficulty, the walks I took as a teenager and young adult. Back then, daytime walks were rare, mostly when I met girls eager for romance; otherwise, the real walks happened at night. If it was a rainy night, then it was the best.

I was angry and frustrated most of the time, and walking in the rain did me good, a mixture of self-flagellation and redemption.

Many nights and many rains have passed over me...

Now, in my old age, I rarely walk at night in the rain. My old bones can no longer withstand the cold and damp.

And yet, from time to time, and not because I want to, I still take a walk at night... with rain that is now less welcome.

Usually, almost always, night walks and walks in unfavorable conditions are due to an obligation. Most often because of shows that end late at night and for which I bought tickets long before, without knowing what the weather would be like.

Now it was the same. We went to a concert by a band we really like, a Romanian band called Byron. A symphonic rock concert.

It was a nasty evening weather-wise. Rain and cold. When it rains in Bucharest, all the streets fill up with cars, making it difficult to get anywhere. I was late for the concert, arriving after it had started and losing my reserved seats. I had to sit far from the stage, but what at first seemed like bad luck turned out to be a blessing. I was able to film and take photos (with my phone) without being disturbed.

The concert ended late, and I took a long walk on Victory Road, my favorite walking spot in the city center. One of the rare walks in the rain... at night!

We passed by the former Royal Palace, now the National Museum of Art.

The late hour and the rain made the city seem deserted in an area that is always crowded.

IMG_20251104_210851.jpg

Only we, who had just left the concert, brought more movement and more people.

The water also got on the phone's lenses, and the photos became increasingly blurry...

Later, at home, I noticed that the photos were alternating, some becoming increasingly blurred...

... but also some pretty good ones, so here's a mix of images that I hope won't bother you.

I looked for better pictures to show what the city looks like at night, on a late-autumn night. Totally different from the hustle and bustle of summer nights.

Images like those from movies about lonely people.

I remember my adolescence and early youth. That rainy, cold night.

I used to walk on nights like this when I was upset, when I was suffering, among other things, from unrequited love!

I always start with photos when I want to write a blog. Photos remind me of places, events, and feelings that turn into words.

A wise saying goes that an image is worth a thousand words.

Everything depends on the beholder.

Make a point of looking around and up to see what you can find to get shots of that; otherwise, you may miss it.

This is one of the recommendations made by @tattoodjay for those who prefer walking and are used to sharing impressions and photos in his community, Wednesday Walk, every Wednesday, like this one today.

Thank you!

The way you described walking in the rain at night brought back memories of my own younger days. It’s interesting how those moments felt magical before, but now they happen for different reasons.

Yes, I believe these feelings are universal.

I remember walking in the rain, especially because I was going to the cinema and when I went out it was raining, but sometimes it was during the day and sometimes at night. I love walking in the rain. Other times I have done it out of necessity. And this walk seeing the streets and buildings in this way is very romantic.

It's true that with age the cold gets more and more like you feel it in your bones... it's not pleasant, it's intense.

Beautiful walk and spectacle!

Oh, I also walked in the rain out of necessity; I didn't even think it would be a walk. Fortunately, if we like the rain, it's easier.
Thank you!

Thank you to you!

Great nightlife atmosphere, the pictures are really good, they look like movie scenes, I liked it a lot. I especially liked the one of the InterContinental Athénée Palace.

Thank you very much, I liked the comparison with movie scenes.

Hello @bluemoon ;))

Apart from a different walk this time, not by the seashore but rainy autumn evening walk in Bucharest, I also loved the fact that you went to a concert of a symphonic rock band/orchestra!! That photo from the concert hall brings good, warm, music-filled ambience 🎶✨️

Hi, @mipiano, it's been a while...

I've been away for a bit (quite a long time!), and I see that even you've had a few longer breaks. Obviously, our lives call us back to reality; we have things to do. I'm glad, though, that we can still connect online here.
I'm trying to diversify the topics of my posts and escape from the constant stories about the sea. Anyway, my range of topics is relatively small.
Beyond all this, I'm glad you liked my little story.
Thank you!

I am also glad we have this place so from time to time we can say hello 👋
I also noticed your absence even though it is true what you say that I had some breaks. Have a nice December @bluemoon 😇

Thank you!
I'm glad you're glad... Happy is a wonderful feeling, and it's good for your health!

@bluemoon For me, a walk in the rain is wonderful; I loved seeing those pictures.

Thank you! That's right, walking in the rain is special, a good moment for reflection and cleansing.

Ah what a nice change to break from the norm for a show and a walk in the rain! I am more of a fan of snow than rain but that comes with the climate here.

The older we get, the more important it is to get those steps in and get that blood flowing. Neat to see your city at night too.

I know you prefer snow, I like it too, but I see it less and less. I am now curious to see what this winter will bring.
Thank you very much!

That evening walk is very enchanting. I love the look of your city. Thanks for sharing.

It was a pleasure, both to share with you and to receive your response.
Thank you!

Reminds me of a song called "When I was young" and most of us long for our younger days :)
Some lovely photos in here Dan.

"When I was young", it must be a song full of nostalgia,
Thank you!

Oh yes, and so many elderly people here are all talking about their younger days.
