A Wednesday Walk in the Marais, in search of its Hidden Treasures [EN - FR]

in Wednesday Walk2 years ago

This wandering begins as I meet up with a friend who was only here for a few days and who is flying back in the early evening. A few years ago he lived here in Paris and we had much more opportunity to see each other. As it was his last day, we went to see some of those places I already go to frequently on my side, but that we also went to together, some of our landmarks...

Just before I found him, in front of the building where he had been staying for the past few days, there were footprints in the ground, and as every good walk begins with a walk, I thought to myself that this was rather appropriate !

For the moment, we are just north of the Marais proper, but this rue Jean-Pierre Thimbaud, this building and this mirror shop, have always intrigued me... Long before I took a picture of them like here, I had done it with my mind many times!

A few steps away, another building has always intrigued me without me ever having been inside! It's the Cirque d'Hiver, at the Filles du Calvaire station. I think it's mainly shows that you can see there, but it's above all this neo-classical architecture that always attracted my eye...

Right in front of the building with its general circular shape, a few flags flutter in the wind... No conceptual idea behind this image, just the pleasure of seeing these fabric symbols waving in the light of this beautiful day.

A few games with shadows and a view of a facade with terraces full of plants while I wait for my friend who has forgotten something in his flat.

Here we are in one of our most frequented landmarks and surely this is one of our favorites ! This is Anne Frank Square, named after the Resistance fighter in her own way, and I don't think I need to present it any further here...

I hadn't been back for quite some time, so much so that I had forgotten that last time, a team of workers were repainting this trellis, which is home to numerous, sumptuous and fragrant species of roses in the spring and then again in the summer season ! Really, this is a place I can only recommend.

You are just a stone's throw from the Centre Pompidou, the quays of the Seine, the Picasso Museum and many other places to see, but if in one or two weeks it is impossible (and even not recommended) to see everything ! In almost fifteen years here, I discover new things every day !

Despite the absence of the roses in my memory, I spend a long time playing with this three-dimensional structure, so full and yet completely perforated !

A long time... ^^ !

But - fortunately - I'm only giving you my most successful attempts here, anyway !

On the way out of the square, of which I would have shown you only a few general images - but believe me, with the good weather, there will be no shortage of opportunities - we come across a superb camellia full of flowers and buds, a true splendor, and again, I can't help but tease the shutter of my camera :)

After passing along the Centre Pompidou, we arrive not far from Les Halles, a commercial district since the Middle Ages and where we now find a simply gigantic shopping centre, at least too big and vast for me.

I prefer to stay on the surface and not to miss this fabulous hive and its bees that look like flies...!

Our last stop will be for the church of St Eustache, and even then, we will only sit around it to chat in the sunshine of this beautiful end of day.

You can find a more complete article on the Centre Pompidou here and another on St Eustache there :)

I hope you have enjoyed your visit with us and that you are doing well ! Thank you for your visit and see you very soon,

Un long moment... ^^ !

Seeing the footprint was an omen for a good walk indeed and it seems that was so apt what a lovely walk and cool to see all the details you share along the way

Thanks for joining the Wednesday, its always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks

Yes, I'm sure if I looked up less, I'd see even more haha ! This walk was a bit short for my taste even if there is a lot of stuff already :)

Good day to you and see you soon

Very cool place. Love places that have a historic feeling. The Anne Frank square was neat. I would have spent a lot of time there as well. Thanks for the journey and the well taken pictures.

It's indeed my really favorite place in this very central area !
I regret a bit that I didn't have the right gear to show it properly :)

You're welcome, I thanks you for your visit and I hope your doing good ✌️

Very nice place, see old building with unique architectural style and still sturdy.like post. Thank you.

I'm happy you enjoyed this one :D

See you soon for more and take good care until then !

These camellia flowers really caught my attention. I failed last year to grow them because in the summer the plant died due to heat. The rose looking flowers really make it a great plant. May I know for how long does this bloom in your area?

Hey there @rocksg !

I failed last year to grow them because in the summer the plant died due to heat.

Ohh, that's bad, I really hope it will work that year 🤞🤞🤞 !
I don't really know for how long, but I suppose that it's around one month... Oups, after checking internet, it says me it can be 8 months ! This is huge !

Thanks you for your visit and may you and your plants be well 🌿🌟
