Nativity Walk
I have been visiting a relative in a small town and decided to walk around the neighbourhood today. The residential area reminded me of some parts of London, especially the outskirts, with larger homes and actual space between the houses. This is unlike the terraced buildings that are popular in inner London.
Being a weekday, most people were at work or school. As such, I hardly saw anyone on the walk with the exception of some elderly folk - some walking their dogs, quietly along the pavements. There was also the odd runner jogging swiftly by in the very windy conditions. It made me remember I need to get more exercise in my life. A brisk walk is nice, but I need something a little more intense to exert my cardiovascular system.
I was just about to head back when I saw a red old-school post box across the road. It had something that looked like little puppets on it so that piqued my curiosity.
"WOW, how cool!"
Someone had created a nativity scene out of what looked like knitted fabric. "How long did this take to make?". I couldn't see any information about it anywhere, so I have no idea who made it, but I am always in awe of people that can create stuff like this.
Five minutes later I walked past another one. It seemed every postal box in the neighbourhood had a nativity scene on it, all slightly different. In one, Mary is clutching baby Jesus in her bosom. In another, the baby is in a crib. Some had wise men, some didn't. Really cool stuff.
It's not like the American homes, but people in this neighbourhood take the Christmas decoration thing seriously apparently. Because of the shorter days, and the thick dark clouds we've been getting of late, one can see all the shimmering lights already in the middle of the day. It's really beginning to look a lot like Christmas here.
Peace & Love,
Adé
I've seen a few postbox toppers around. It brightens up the area. Of course some just go mad with Xmas lights.
It's been a bit windy out today. Stay safe.
The wind came out of nowhere today, totally wasn't expecting it.
that is so cool :)
Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk :)
Thank you. I enjoy this a lot
I love the yarn thingies. We’ve a lot of lights around here and shall do a walkabout one evening coming up to take photos and share here on hive.
So cool. Yeah people are getting ready for sure.
I love the decorations this time of year too. Especially all the holiday lights during the shortest days of the year!
Nothing compared to your side of the Atlantic though. The time I spent Christmas in America I got sensory overload haha
