I live naked and barefooted, very close to Earth and Nature, in an 18-acre, off-grid, clothing-optional, food-forest intentional community (GaiaYoga Gardens), way out in the jungles of Lower Puna, far East Big Island, Hawai'i, and I have for more than 7 years now. Although there are many challenges, I love my life, and I'm immensely grateful to live where and how I do, on my own terms! I would not want to live any other way! 😁🙏💚⚡💥🔥✴️✳️❇️👣🌱✨🤙

Warm greetings all! 😁🙏💚✨🤙
I don't really even know how to start writing this post, as I'm still in the midst of fully understanding the relationship between HBD, HIVE, Hive debt, and the fiat dollar, but I think that this is a very important subject, so I'll give it my best shot. I'm sure that all of you have been noticing the fiat-dollar price of HIVE continue to fall. There are multiple aspects that play into this all-time low. First of all, what is HBD? Yes, it's an algorithmic stable coin pegged to the price of the fiat dollar, that's true, but that's only one layer. HBD, HIVE-Backed Dollars, actually represents HIVE debt, which is an essential component of how our Blockchain operates. It's considered debt because HBD can be converted to HIVE, with that potential HIVE being part of what is called the HIVE Virtual Supply. To not repeat what some others have already elequently explained, I suggest reading No more HBD rewards paid? Understanding the Hive Debt Ratio and its effects, How Exactly Is The Hive Debt Calculated? Important Things To Know When Monitoring The Health Of HBD, and Hive's Debt Is Rising Quickly.

So there are two significant things to attempt to explain here, the first being the internal relationship between HBD and HIVE, and the other is the relationship between HBD and HIVE to the fiat dollar. @arcange very succinctly described (in the first above-linked posts) what HBD and HIVE mean to each other, with these three sentences summing it up nicely:
HIVE can be viewed as ownership in the community whereas HBD can be viewed as a debt denominated in HIVE.
Each HBD is essentially an IOU ("I Owe You [HIVE tokens]") issued by the platform and given out as a reward to its users.
The debt ratio is the ratio between the HIVE virtual supply and the HBD supply.
That debt ratio is rising quite quickly, as is HIVE's inflation, with them both being at all-time highs, while HIVE's fiat price is at an all-time low, which is not a good combo. In previous incarnations of the chain, the danger zone for the debt ratio was set at 9%, 10, 20%, and it's now presently set to 30%. We are presently operating with a debt ratio that has depegged HBD from the dollar in the past, and it's because the present debt ratio is so high that HBD is still holding its peg.

What is the present debt ratio you might ask? It's presently sitting at 13%, with only four previous occasions when it's gone into this range. If the debt ratio reaches 30%, then the haircut rule, which is a safety mechanism coded into the Blockchain, will go into effect, which would lower post rewards, remove HBD from post rewards, lower the APR for HBD in Savings, or even stop all interest accrual for HBD in Savivings entirely, as well as making HBD lose its peg to the fiat dollar, meaning that HBD would lose value, and would no longer represent $1 of HIVE. The lowest that it's gotten previously was around $0.50 before the peg was regained. If you'd like to track the Hive Debt Ratio, you can do so on HBDStats.

There is also another layer to this that needs to be mentioned as well, and that's the relationship between HIVE and HBD to the fiat dollar. All fiat currencies lose value over time, due to the nature of their issuance and distribution, and because they are all backed by something even worse than nothing, they're backed by debt, and not just any kind of debt, but debt that can never be repayed, which means that all fiat currencies eventually go to zero and become worthless. The value of the US dollar continues to decrease, and given that HBD is peggged to the price of the US Dollar (which is quite a bugger indeed), that means that HBD is also losing value too, but we don't noticed it because it's pegged to the dollar. This suggests to me that the value within the whole Hive Ecosystem may be decreasing as well.

So what can we as members of the Hive Blockchain community do to help the situation? Well, one would be to not sell HIVE on external exchanges, as that has contributed to the the low fiat price of HIVE. Second, since we are getting a bit too close for comfort to the danger zone for the debt ratio, I'd also say that withdrawing HBD from Savings, converting or swapping it for HIVE, and then powering it up, would also be a good idea soon. This is exactly what I'm considering doing now, before HBD loses its peg to the dollar. I really wanted to reach my year-end goal of 600 HBD in Savings, and to keep growing it over time, but it's looking like there may indeed be a change of plans. Although I haven't made the decision yet, if I do choose to withdraw my HBD from Savings, both on my own account, and on the 'We Are Alive Tribe' accounts, I'll do so just after the next interest claims. Our Hive ship is moving into dangerous waters, my friends, but this Blockchain ship has weathered worse, and I believe that we will indeed get through this Storm that we now face.

Yesterday, Saturday, I left the Flow House, after finishing up my Hive tasks, by around 2:15PM, giving my attention first to some photography for my posts. Once I was satisfied with the batch of shots that I'd taken, I got my machete, and I walked around the property in search of harvestable bananas (which I didn't find). After banana hunting, I did a few more small tasks, then I went to the Landing to make myself some food (spiced-and-seasoned ground beef, eggs, onions, green sweet peppers, tomatoes, amaranth leaves, longevity spinach leaves, Brazilian fireweed leaves, olive oil, and sea salt), and with that and my jar of leftover superfood fire coffee in hand(s), I headed back to the Flow House to begin my evening Hive-Blurt-'We Are Alive Tribe' tasks. I got everything completed by just before 9PM, and after some asset management, and reading as much as I could on Hive's present financial situation, I went to bed by just after 11PM. I woke up just before 7AM, having slept well, doing more asset management, going to make my superfood fire coffee in the Landing, then returning to the Flow House to write this post. It's now just after 1:30PM, so it's an excellent time to wrap this up, so that I may get to my few other important Hive-Blurt-'We Are Alive Tribe' tasks, and my weekly 'We Are Alive Tribe' asset management, before leaving the Flow House a little later in the afternoon, to focus first on some photography for my posts, then on a few small chores, and finally to walk over to my friend Lea's property to help her with some land work. I deeply appreciate y'all so very much! Until tomorrow's version of these posts! Always forward, onward, upward, and whaleward, ho, together we go! 😁🙏💚✨🤙

2025 Life Goals
1.) Do regular integral practices again, alone or with others.
2.) Prepare regular batches of my medicinal teas collected from the land again.
3.) Make my plant nursery, and the gardens, beautiful again.
4.) Begin learning relevant coding/programming languages to more fully contribute to the sovereignty-driven technologies where I am active, like Arch Linux, Hive, Qortal, DeSo, and Bastyon.

All photos were taken with my Motorola G Play 2024 Android Phone.

Thank you all so much who have helped me get to where I am today, and allowing me to share more of the beauty and magic from my life and my world with you, and for your continuous appreciation and support! I am truly deeply grateful! 😁🙏💚✨🤙

That's really a bad news. ☹️
But I hope Hive will survive and We all should do things to avoid this danger.

It's not great news, that's for sure, my friend, but Hive has been through rough times before, and it's always come out stronger, and I believe that it will again. We're at a pivotal make-or-break moment. I'll just keep building and growing regardless! 😁🙏💚✨🤙

A pretty complicated things, and definitely not good for us!
Overall, Crypto verse is down. We hope that we will revive!

It's true, brother, I'm still working to understand certain aspects of it. Thankfully, the Hive Debt is now steadily falling since yesterday afternoon, so that's one good thing! Yeah, all of crypto is getting hammered at the moment, but I am quite certain that it will rise again, far bigger than it was before! 😁🙏💚✨🤙

Well explained bro, it is all very complicated and i suspect there are more sinister agenda's causing these issues with value as well as well as the balancing act of currency or volitile markets.
For instance if a whale removes a large portion of out of the chain, or if people are pushed of the platform by bullies and lets not forget always reputation outside the chain.
Honestly for a platform that depends on reputation it should do a better job of caring for it's own.
What happens on platforms does not just stay on the platform we live in a new age and bad news spreads quickly, i do think things can be turned around but that only happens with change.
You are awesome @tydynrain have the best week

Thank you so much, @benthomaswwd, I'm grateful that it was reasonably clear. It is quite complex, true, and I agree with you about the sinister agendas. A lot of HIVE is being unloaded on exchanges, which sure isn't helping the price. You said it, brother, and Hive does not have a good reputation at the moment at all, sadly. Yes, it can turn around, and you're right, certain important things would need to change for that to happen. You're very kind, my friend, thank you, and right back at you. May your Monday be magically marvelous. 😁🙏💚✨🤙

Noted and understood....I think! 🤣
Seriously though, I kind of thought things were getting tricky. Many good people have left the chain. I hope we can attract new users and builders very soon. We'll see.

That's good to hear, David, and yeah, I fried my brain for a while wrapping my head around it all...lol! Yes, I noticed the same, and it seems to have accelerated in the past 2 weeks or so. Indeed, way too many amazing people have left. I'm as committed as ever, though, so I'm not going anywhere. We're coming into make-or-break territory, and I'm hoping and praying for the best. 😁🙏💚✨🤙
