When I was working in Maldives, I was in touch with the Indian expatriates working in the same place. I participated, back then, with a few of Indian cultures (At first I didn't know that they were religious in nature). One of them were Onam festival. They prepared dishes all out of vegetables only, there were no fish or meat or eggs at all. I was invited as well and we were given the meal on the banana leaf. And yes, they prepared some sweet items as well.
Afterwards, I lost connection with them. The puja you described, was that Onam festival?

ENGAGEtokens.No, this was at a wedding puja. I don't think that people in my country know about the Onam festival or believe in it. By chance I know about it because I read it on the internet once. I think that it is that way because our ancestors didn't passed that tradition.
