The unforeseen.

Since I was born and now that I am getting older, I've been hearing stories of my nation fighting corruption for as long as I can remember. Every day, you will hear on the news station or radio channel that the nation has borrowed funds from other nations, and you will wonder why there is so much borrowing of funds. Then, after a while, you will hear their response. Then, from the blues, they would come out like people who have faced so many challenges in their lifetime.

They would sit on that seat with many television news channel microphones in front of them, too many that you are likely to lose count. Then they would open their mouth to speak, and the first thing you would hear is "money," not like they own the money, the borrowed ones. I've never heard any news about my nation lending money to other nations to fight their own corruption, or is it that my nation can't lend out money? "Are we that broke?"

I can remember one faithful day when I was coming back from work, when the driver tuned in the radio station and one particular statement that grabbed my attention was the announcer mentioned that and I quote "in Nigeria everything we do carry corruption even the good morning we say in the morning is accompanied by corruption" immediately I lost interest in whatever I was doing with my phone and just focus my attention on the whole the radio stuff that was going on.

Growing up, I got to know a few functions of the vigilante. I can remember when they would walk around different streets with their big torchlight that would sight someone from a very far distance. In those days, these vigilantes made our environment a little safer when the armed policemen were busy with something else on their tables.

Talking about using my money to fight corruption in my environment I think its something I'm gonna consider doing because it has to do with my environment but if it was the nation at a whole I don't think I would want to do something like that because corruption starts from the individuals from the streets and that statement that was made from radio station that I mentioned earlier was a bit correct to an extent.

Corruption starts from the individuals, and I believe that is the major root, so if someone wants to fight corruption and destroy it once and for all, I think it has to be tackled from the roots, and that is the citizens. From the day I was born, we've been relying on the corrupt authorities to fight this thing called "corruption," and till this moment, they are still fighting that same corruption. I feel like corruption is more powerful than our leaders.

And just the way it is said that people do things for their own interest, I think corruption has another phase that we don't know about. And I feel like only our leaders know that phase and they are using it to embezzle money from the nation and forgetting the fight part. So I'm gonna consider using my money to right crime in my neighborhood rather than the nation at large.

Thanks for reading 🧡

To make a change, it begins from the root. It’s never possible to think of changing a nation when we haven’t start that from each individual.
