When we talk about tourism in my country, we definitely won’t forget to talk about the OJUKWU BUNKER WAR MUSEUM CENTER located in umuahia the capital city of Abia state Nigeria. Nigeria is a country full of past histories which has been preserved up till date and has gradually turned to a source of tourism to tourists who intend to study, research and enjoy the past histories of Nigeria. Before I continue, I’d love to give a brief history about the Ojukwu bunker war museum.
History of Ojukwu Bunker War museum
To be honest, I wasn’t born during the time this place was built. Nigeria is made up of three tribes which are the igbos, Yoruba, and the Hausa. Now let me be quick, the igbos really wanted to be a sovereign nation under the umbrella name BIAFRA, they wanted to separate from Nigeria so badly that it caused a lot of controversies between them and the Nigerian government.
The Nigerian government were never in support of them leaving the country, and becoming a nation of their own. This led to what I call the NIGERIAN CIVIL WAR, now the Nigerian government decided to fight the igbos(Biafrans) who wanted freedom to make its own sovereign nation. This escalated and a man from the igbos named OJUKWU decided to champion this war by being the leaders of the igbos(biafrans) during this civil war.
Now here is the gist, do you know that ojukwu in preparation of the war came to umuahia, the capital city of Abia state and constructed an underground bunker, where he operated from. This was to enable him protect himself and restrategize for a better tactics to defeat the Nigerian army. Unfortunately the biafrans at the very end lost the war.
This bunker is like a tunnel, and very narrow to get into. It was a very beautiful sight to behold, inside this underground bunker there was an old big radio transmitter where Ojukwu transmitted a lot of information to biafrans from the bunker. This bunker also had an escape route where they could escape from when there is tip off or danger in the bunker. I had opportunity to look at the photos of Michael Okpara, Ojukwu and other biafrans leaders who helped champion the war for biafrans. The bunker was built in 93 days by our biafrans engineers, indeed this is a place to tour.
The Nigerian War museum
This is another beautiful tourism center where I visited and indeed it is a beautiful place to be at. This place has a lot of nostalgic histories of Nigerian war, even war weapons used during the Nigerian civil war, used both by the biafrans and the Nigerian soldiers. I came across the war jet, the war ship, ogbunigwe (used by the biafrans) in the civil war, and lot’s more. Indeed Nigerian war history is worthy of touring, this place is a beautiful piece of Nigerian history right before your very eyes. The 60’s was a trying time in the history of Nigeria and every piece of art, weapon, machines used during the war was found in the war museum.
If you are looking for a place to tour, then just come to the Nigerian war museum and also the Ojukwu bunker. This place is worthy of visiting and I can comfortably call this place a tourist center which as generated a lot of revenues for my country Nigeria.

You went all out to get this information and am glad you are able to share it here.
The Nigerian civil war left a lot of scars on Nigerians, especially the easterners but we know better what patriotism and nationalism is all about now.
Umuahia where the war relies are kept is the capital base of war museum in Nigeria.
This work ought to be promoted for doubters to see the level of development in Nigeria during the 70s.

Yes exactly, it was scary to enter but to be honest they really tried their best in that underground building. Just make out time to visit the place. I bet you will enjoy every experience, as you will get to see all the old weapons they used during the civil war.
