I have not always been a good student in the various schools I have attended throughout my life. I have not taken school seriously, have not attended classes on time, and have not read my books as frequently as I used to. I was the unserious type of student all the way through High School and still in the Higher Institution.
Also, in terms of Federal Universities in Nigeria, we have been on strike for 8 months, or approximately 2 semesters, and everyone has returned to school. I had a brief conversation with my father about my studies and how seriously I take them before returning to school.
My father understands how busy I am and how many activities I am involved in, which is why he felt it was necessary to have this conversation with me. He was attempting to persuade me to reduce my activities and focus more on my studies, as they are more important than any other activity I am involved in at the moment. He wants me to do better in school and improve my grade point average because I am not doing well in terms of CGPA.
The battle between the Unserious student in me Vs My father's Advice
So today came, and I was awake all night working on my system during one of my non-school activities still during the day break. Then I checked my department's Whatsapp group chat and saw that there would be class today. Then I had to choose between the unserious student in me and the advice I received from my father.
The sceptic in me said, "It's the first class of the semester, don't go." They would most likely accomplish nothing and be a waste of time. It is best to begin attending classes during the third week of the semester. While my father's advice that I should take my studies more seriously rang in my head.
I chose to be a good Student......
I literally chose to be a good student by cancelling every activity I had planned for the day in order to go to school for class. It was a difficult decision, but I felt that if I did not begin with such a positive energy, I would carry the negative energy with me until the end of the semester. So I wanted something different, something with a different feel and energy to begin with, and something to push down at the end.
I went straight to the bathroom, got ready, and left for class at 8:30am so I could make it to the 9:00am class. Also, because I am unfamiliar with the location of the class, I need to arrive at school early so that I can meet up with friends to locate the class where the lectures will be held.
Then the Unexpected happens π’πππ....
I met up with my friends, who said they had been to class but that the lectures had not been held. What? I thought. Then I was told not to go home because there would be another class in two hours. We decided to work down to the department to relax, but we were trapped by lecturers who needed students to work for them.
It so happened that these lecturers were relocating to another building and needed students to assist them in transporting their table, chairs, freezer/fridges, library, books, and whatever else they could think of. It was a detailed description of the work of a labourer.
I expected it to be something we would do and then leave, but they kept my coursemates and I, about 6 of us, for 4 hours. We carried these items for about 4 hours. π«π©π©π©
This photo was taken in the morning. I had no idea how things would turn out for us. I assumed it would be something we would do and then leave, but we had no idea what was in store for us.
All of these loads on the tractor were carried in and out of the carriage via a staircase. It was extremely stressful. I became so tired that my hands began to shake and my muscles became weak.
What hurt the most was that my beautiful glasses had broken, I had a minor injury on my face, my wristwatch pin holder had been removed, and I couldn't do any of the things I had planned to do.

You can see my lovely glasses, little did I know it was its last day. Now I would not look as cute as I used to.
On the bright Side....
I had fun really. Yeah it was stressful and felt like I was going to faint but I had fun. I was able to relate with these guys. We shared the way we felt, how tired we were, and made a lot of jokes with each other. Two of the guys tried running away but while they were running, they were called by another set of lecturers in the front. They had to run back to us because they did not know what the lecturer had in store for them π before it ends up to the statement: leaving from frying pan to fire.

This is my face without my glasses. This was after my glasses had broken and my clothes were dusty, but I still appear to be in good shape!
MY FINAL DECISION
Anyway, it appears that I will not be attending class this week. If I were to follow the unserious student in me, I would return to school in two weeks, but the stress I have already experienced is enough for the week. Furthermore, I am working on an online project that must be submitted this week. This would give me more time to complete the task.

Yeah I forgot to mention. They gave us 1k each (which cannot buy me my glasses obviously). but I was glad that they showed appreciation.
Although I don't mind not receiving the 1k to get my glasses back.
Being an unserious student rocks... but definitely I would make sure I finish up with the project in time. God help me!

The reason why I took pictures is because I noticed I could not go through all these stress for nothing and I know that writing about what happened could put some cash into my wallet. The good things about Hive you know.
At least, I have made some money to buy back my glasses and some extras too. My day was not a total waste after all.

I have been seeing people move things out of COLENG, but I didn't think much of it as they are usually doing that every year anyway. But thinking about it now, and seeing the tractor, they must be done with the COLENG Phase II they had been constructing for a very long time now. That's good.
On the bright side, you have laboured for posterity. You may get to benefit from these new venues, but your juniors are the ones that would be most grateful for your honorable service...π€£π€£π€£π€£
see ehn.. What I am thinking now is which side are we going to be doing our ELE practicals, is it the old COLENG building or the new one. Also, anytime we want to sign our dues, do we have to go down far to the new building.. I think this would be a whole new stress for us in the long run.
