I SOLD SNAILS TO MAKE MY FIRST EARNINGS

in Hive Learners3 years ago

Happy new week hivers, it has been a while since I participated in the weekly content. I have been focusing more on engagement and trying to build up.

I believe it will be nice if I participate in this week's own so I could share my story of how I started my hunger for financial freedom without having to depend on my parent for everything. A big thanks to the Hive-leaners community Moderators and Members.

Growing up as a young child I have always desired to live independently without having to look up to anyone for any financial aid or support. I feel so bad when I see my friends having those childhood games and toys and yet when I tell dad I needed one for myself he will just say I should go by it by myself. But I didn't have any money on my to buy. So this causes me to look out for a way to get it.

As young as I was I tend to believe that everyone has their problem and needs to meet. Not every time do I have to ask Dad or mom for money.

RAINY SEASON WAS MY JOYOUS MOMENT TO MAKE MONEY

As a kid, I always look unto the rainy season as this is the season I and my friends will go into the forest to hunt for snails underneath the wet leaves or just on the ground or sometimes they could be climbing some trees in the forest.

Snails are very delicious when you fry them or just add them to your soup.
Those from the Western part of Nigeria love snails so much, I don't know of another part of the country though.

I HUNT FOR SNAILS AND SOLD THEM TO MAKE MONEY.

As I said earlier on, as soon as the rain falls and stops and the ground is very wet, I and my friends would go into the nearby forest in search of snails. On a good day, we would gather so much in our buckets or whatever we carried along.
Then, when we return home, we would separate the good ones (unbroken ones) from the bad ones or broken ones and give them to our parents to cook for the house. And we would take the good ones to the buyers.

HOW MUCH I MADE ON MY FIRST EARNING.

It depends on how good, big and plenty the snails are. Then it can range from N600 (Approximately a dollar now) to N1,000 and that was a whole lot of money for a kid like me in those days. I believe my parent was proud of me then even though they never for once say it. At least I was able to get some stuff for myself without having to ask them so often again.

It was the sweetest moment of my life, having to make money for myself. There's a feeling you have when you spend the money you work for. It is different when someone gives you that money. I feel like a boss of my own. I feel really good and big among my peers that don't have any. I was indeed a happy young man.

Yeah it was fun then oo, we were always excited because we make money and also have some for our mom to cook for the family. So we save them the money they should have use to buy more meat. Just that as we grow there are certain things that we can no longer do. And the places and positions we find ourselves won't permit us to go there again.

Loool I get you

Some years back, there was a place we used to live in Lagos, it was close to some bushes. During the rainy season, it would be as if someone unlocked doors and these snails would be everywhere. Big and small. the small ones were the ones that came out, but we had to go deep into the bush to hunt for the big ones.
But we never sold them though, we used them to cook after washing them.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
