SHE WOULD ALWAYS BE MY HERO

I wonder how a woman could be so hardworking and consistent in doing different menial jobs. She was an estate agent, a bricklayer, a supplier of bread, and a trader and still would be around to meet our needs. She made sure we don't go hungry as she was always ready to put food on the table.

She sacrificed many things for her children and I couldn't stop loving her. She was my hero and will continue to be even when she isn't with us anymore.

I am talking about my mother. The best I have had in the world. She was always there to listen to us. Even though she had no time for our academics which made Dad sacrificed himself to consistently check on us every day in the school right from when we started school, till we finished secondary school, mom took the role of engaging in different hard labour work just to help us survive in the family.

Despite that, she never disrespected her husband which served as a good example to us. She taught me how to live independently and not to depend on anyone. She taught my younger sister business and she is doing great in it today.

There were two experiences which stood out in my life and they would continue to be remembered.

The first experience

I was studying in the college of education in the year 2013 and was in my second year. I had nothing on me, even the easiest and fastest food (Garri) got finished. I had no kerosene on my stove. It was the stove we were using then as I couldn't afford gas. I asked a few students in my hostel to lend me some money, and no one could help me. I didn't eat from morning and it was on a Sunday.

I cried, not because I had no money but because people weren't ready to help me even when I promised to pay it back at a stipulated time. It was getting to evening and I hadn't eaten anything. I cried and called my mom because I had no choice again. She heard my cry and asked what happened. I explained it to her and she was like
"You should have called even before now. Today is Sunday and banks don't open until the next day. What should we do now?"

I was confused and no answer was coming to my head. She then asked if she could send recharge cards if I would be able to sell them, and I said yes.

A few minutes later, she sent a #750 (1.4 HBD) recharge card for me to manage till the next day. I sold the recharge card for #600 (1.1 HBD) and I was able to sort myself out for that day. She came through for me even when I understood she bought those recharge cards on credit and was also trying her best on us.

Second experience

I had a great sickness that almost took my life. It was typhoid and malaria but my aunt I stayed with then couldn't take me to the hospital as she thought I would be fine with some medications. My uncle came at that moment and saw my state. My Aunt told him she doesn't have money to take me to the hospital. He gave her some money for my treatment and getting to the hospital, the doctor said it would have been another problem if they didn't bring me at that moment. They passed some drip on me but the next day, I was discharged.

I got home feeling uneasy and I knew the typhoid was still around. I told my aunt I would go home to meet my parents. She allowed and I travelled home. I couldn't cross the expressway but someone took my hands and crossed me over.

My mom was attending to a customer then and immediately she sighted someone holding my hand, she dropped everything she was doing and took me to the nearby hospital. I was there for two days as she also stood by me. She left her business to take care of me and I could see how emotional she was then. I couldn't stop the teary eyes in me seeing her in such a condition. Thank God for her. I ate my Dad's fried stew and rice that day 😅😅

My parents are my hero but my mom stood out to be the greatest hero of my life.

The way parents react whenever they get call of urgent 2h or 2k from their kids is beyond explanation. God bless them so much for us.

Something about this post brought back good memories. #600 made a difference for you in 2013. As of that time, #500 was enough for T-fare from Enugu to Onitsha. Now, our currency has become useless.

You are right. Those times, we were still enjoying until things kept becoming worse each year. I miss those times though.

Our parents are really trying. To those still alive, all we can do is to take care of them when we are capable.

I think for everyone, their parents are their real heroes. No doubt, our mother knows everything about us, she knows what we feel all the time and she sacrificed her own happiness for us. May God bless our parents.

Your mom is a great woman with an heart of gold, who as been there for you and your family always.

People are something like that, not willing to help even when they have, but thank God you've got your mom to help you in such situation.

And for the time you were seriously sick, I've had such experience with my mom as well, they are angels in human form sent our way.
And God will continually bless them for us.

Wow... Such love that can never be quantified. Sometimes when you want to talk about things like these you just find them a bit hard to put into words.
She is a true hero indeed.

Mother's are gold. Thank you for appreciating her, your children will rise up to praise you also in due time. But I believe you should let us see her image, let's see mama de mama. God bless her

Sweet mother's! This is why I love that song titled "sweet mother" it's an oldie but goldie. A mother's love can not be quantified. A good mother would go to any length to make sure their children are taken care of. The song seems to talk about your mother and she is indeed a hero. She is an amazing woman and I hope the heavens bless her truly.
