With each day that passes, humanity gives us more reasons why it is a terrible idea to either trust anyone or choose to be kind to someone.
I met with a friend of mine today who works at the bar in a hotel, and somewhere along the line of our conversation, he had started to tell me a story about something that happened at the bar some few days ago.
Apparently two men had walked into the bar with a lady. They had all ordered for drinks, and after about an hour of them drinking, they had decided to move to a different spot to continue with their drinks, probably because the place they were sat was far away from where other activities at the bar was going on.
After they had moved to a different seat, my friend had gone ahead to clean the previous chairs they had used, as that was also part of his job. About few hours later, one of the men had walked up to my friend and asked him if he saw his phone while he was cleaning the seats they used, to which my friend answered no.
It turned that after they had moved to a different seat, the man had continued drinking with his friends, before he and the lady both excused themselves to go to the hotel to continue with their business, but shortly after, he had rushed downstairs with the lady, desperately searching for his phone.
The search had continued for some few minutes and by this time, it had caught the attention of some other people, including the hotel manager. After a while, the man eventually gave up because he felt he must have misplaced it somewhere else, but just as he was about to return upstairs with his lady friend, something happened.
Someone from the gate of the hotel had walked over to them and spoke directly to the man's friend, asking him to return the phone to the rightful owner...this was the same friend who sat and was drinking with him and the lady all night.
It turned out that the dude had stolen the phone, turned it off and hid it, not knowing that someone had watched him do all of that. What was even more mind boggling was the fact that both men weren't friends.
Apparently, the man who stole the phone had approached the man whose phone was stolen, at the gate, asking him if he had any cash to spare. So being the good man he was, he had given him some cash and even offered to buy him some drinks inside....and that was how they all got to sit together.
My mind was blown away when I heard the story because this was a good man trying to do some good deeds but unfortunately it backfired... Now I'm sure he never would want to help anyone in that situation ever again.
It's sad.
And as for the thief, the security guys at the hotel ended up roughing him up by beating the living daylight out of him.
Similar stories happen in my country too. There are beggars on the street who are far richer than me and believe me when I say it. These things have restricted my helping hand significantly.
It's indeed ridiculous what happened but I think that man won't offer help others in such a situation again. It's the reason in the present world we don't dare to help others.
