Ever since I graduated from school, getting bored has kinda become an everyday thing for me, and this is because I spend most of time at home while everyone else goes out to work or school. And the crazy thing is that one would think that seeing how I've spent the better half of this year being bored, that I would have a better coping mechanism for it, something I do the moment I start to feel bored... News flash, I don't.
And it's crazy because most times when the topic on boredom comes up and I ask people what they do in order to cope with it, most of the things they say are things that I've tried in the past but realized that I'm not really good with them and I will be listing out some of those things for y'all today.
MOVIES
The first thing people have always recommended for me is to see a movie, they say that as long as they have movies on their phones, they can never be bored, which is very understandable but for some weird reasons, it doesn't work too well for me. I've tried seeing movies whenever I'm bored but end up getting bored while seeing the movie and trust me when I say it has nothing to do with the movie itself.
And this is because sometimes, it could be a really interesting movie, one with a lot of suspense and yet after sitting for about thirty minutes watching that film, I always get this urge to want to do something else, something that doesn't involve watching a two hour long movie.
SOCIAL MEDIA
The next one on the list is most definitely social media and this one has actually been the most effective one so far. Like I've said in one of my post in the past, I've come to realize that I have short attention span, so watching a long movie in one sitting is usually stressful for me unless I'm seeing it with someone else. So yeah, social media works for me, my only concern and why I'm not on it much is due to the data consumption.
Over here in Nigeria, data can be very expensive and finishes a lot faster than you can imagine. So in order to avoid spending a fortune on data, I have to reduce the amount of time I spend watching irrelevant stuff on the internet due to boredom.
GOING OUT
The last one on my list today will be people telling me that one way they get to deal with boredom is going out to have a good time. While that may have worked for me in the past, the problem with that is that going out isn't exactly cheap and also, I've come to realize that I hate going out alone, I have to be in the midst of my friends to have a good time.
And seeing how most of my friends are probably at work or in school during the time I do feel bored, there will be absolutely no one to go out with.
So those are the three coping mechanism that I've tried in the past and those haven't really worked best for me so far.
Movies are a good option but in the case of social media, I don't like it because I feel most people waste their time. Going out is a very good and healthy one in my opinion.
