Earlier today I was asking myself a question about what I would do if I found myself in a situation where someone was choosing to be difficult with me.
Let's say I lend someone money and they refuse to pay it back in time; how do I ensure I get my money back?
The first thought that came to my mind would be to seize something that belongs to that person, something that is also equivalent or higher in value than the money they owe me, forcing them to give me my money or never getting that stuff back.
While trying to do this, the person might struggle with me, which could potentially lead to us fighting. Now I'm not a violent person; the last time I fought anyone was years ago, and I can't even remember who or when that happened. That is to explain to you how long it's been since I raised my fist to fight.
But aside from getting into a fight with that person, I sincerely do not see another way where we could get the issue resolved, especially if they're choosing to be difficult and not saying anything promising on how I would get my money back.
To be honest, coming to that conclusion made me feel a bit powerless and made me realize I kind of have no leverage in a situation like this. And yes, some of you would say go to the police, but you probably think that because you live in a country where things work.
Over here, it would cost me more money to report to the police, and at the end of the day, I could end up still not getting paid while he pays his bail and leaves.
I think the only way to go about this issue is to always have collateral when lending people money, unless maybe the person is a close friend and it's the kind of money that you could ignore if they refuse to pay it back. Because aside from that, you just have to hope they're reasonable people, or you just might end up getting into a fistfight to get back your own money or get something equivalent to the value of your money.
