A Different Kind of Christmas: Finding Joy in a Complicated Year

The festive season for 2025 is already here once again and as usual, everyone is already getting hyped up and all prepared for the fun that is yet to come. I love holidays and if there’s a part of the year that I love so much, it’s the Christmas season because I get to have not just one day of holiday but if I’m lucky, I get to have three whole weeks to myself and whatever I want to do to end the year.

As usual, everyone mostly spends the festive season with their friends and family because why not. After a long year of working hard and mostly spending a lot of time away from your friends and loved ones, it just makes so much sense to spend this time together. I usually spend the holidays with my family which means I have to travel back home like most of my family members so we can get to roll out all the plans we have on paper.

Usually, what we mostly do is to have our family gatherings as usual. Then we couple it with a short trip just to release some stress. Finally, we have a bigger get together to end the year and everyone goes back to their usual lives. This year, the story is a little different for me. My family has had to go through a very rough time this year which someway some brought us all together for a very long time. Some relatives have had to travel across countries just to be with the family and this I must say has had a toll on all of us. Things have just finally started to get back to normal and everyone is trying to get their lives back on track.

I for one have been home so times in the second half of the year and even as we speak now, I’m home with my family spending some quality time. This time is actually not one that I get to use for free. This means I’d have to someway somehow pay for the time that I’m using. And in view of this, I see my holidays being filled with work that has been kept aside for very long. If I’m to be honest, I don’t see my holidays looking very fun as it usually is because I have a lot to handle when I get back to work.

Basically, this means I’d be spending my Christmas alone with my work because I am left with no other option for now. Maybe and just maybe when I get sometime, I’d be able to go back home for the new year- that’s if I’m in the mood which I highly doubt. What I do know is that, I would still get workaholics like myself to have some fun with when I feel like during the festive season. This means I still look forward to having the best holidays because what’s the essence of having so many days off if you can’t have a little bit of fun.
