There is no doubt that everything that has advantages will also have disadvantages. But then there will be different. The use of phones in schools is different ways; I would like to talk in my own perspective about that. It is good to know that we are in the era of technology, where everything is moving so well and so easily. I once regretted the fact that I did not know too much about artificial intelligence when I was in school.
It would have been a good help for me for the two projects I wrote in my college and my university. It would have been easier because I wouldn't have spent too much time on the project and too much money. But one thing the students don't know is that all these phones and even the technology as a whole are here to help us but shouldn't do the whole job for us.
Advantages of using phones on school
premises.
Access to information: most of us know that this period, most of the places we got information from were on the net. If phone is allowed in school, the students will be able to access the Internet and be able to learn a new thing. Moreover, this will serve as a place to carry out any kind of assignment that is given to the students. It's so good in assisting, maybe in projects or any kind of schoolwork that is given to students.
Learning: a phone will give room for learning; most of us do not know a thing when the lectures are going on; in fact, the internet is better than some of the lecturers we have in the school; their method of teaching is so bad. Having a phone will allow you to read and
learn online.
However, we also have the disadvantages
Addicted: one of the disadvantages of using a phone is adaptation; this can go a long way to affect students. The moment any students get addicted to their phone, then it will not be easy for them to focus.
Losing focus: phone can cause a lot of distractions. Most students go a long way to even press their phone when the lecture is going on. Playing games, chatting, and doing all sorts of useless things online. This, however, takes 80 percent of their attention away from the class.Lastly,
cheating: 90 percent of students will use their phones to cheat either in exam time or even during the test. This has happened a lot, even during the time when phones were not allowed in the school; they still found a way to take the phone to them.
So what is my take on this? I worked in a school whereby they allowed the students to bring their phones to school; however, if you must bring your phone to school, you must submit the phone.
We know phones can be used for emergencies, and their parents might need their attention, so the point is that they must submit their phones. In case they failed to submit their phone and they were caught, the phone will be seized till the end of the term. Which their parents agreed with the terms and conditions. So in summary, phones can be allowed in school if there are protocols like this.
Everything has both advantages and disadvantages and when it comes to the of phones, I believe it has to do with how we manage how students use their phones.
