Should we trust autonomous cars? [EN/PT]

Cars are a modern marvel, and every year I am more impressed by the technologies and developments that accompany this market. I wonder where the limit to evolution is, given that we even have some autonomous models on the road. And, of course, in the midst of this novelty, there are also controversies. There are cases of accidents and even bugs in which there is often little the passenger can do but contact the insurance company responsible for the vehicle. But is this marvel of our age, which is about to become more and more common, ready to be used without risk?

Well, I've never really been a big fan of cars and I've always found driving boring and dangerous. Of course, the times I had to drive my old car, I did. It's a task like any other, and I can't deny that it has often been a wonderful tool in my life, helping me a lot when I lived further away. Now, if I were to buy a car, would I buy an autonomous car? The answer would be: maybe in a few years' time.

I think it's still too early to fully trust an autonomous car. Although the technology is getting more and more advanced, it's still not enough for me to put my life and that of my family in the hands of something I don't trust 100%. I know that these vehicles are already efficient in many respects and drive much better than many drivers, even better than me, but I still can't trust them completely.

Imagine a bug happening at a critical moment? I wouldn't even want to imagine it! My cell phone is already buggy and so is my computer, let alone a car, which could put me at risk if that happened! If an accident were to happen, there's no doubt in my mind that the companies that made it would bear full responsibility; after all, in an autonomous car, you're just a passenger!

I think it's only a matter of time before everyone wants to own such a car, but until then a lot needs to change. I'm not sure what kind of infrastructure the roads need to have to accommodate these vehicles. Maybe here in my city a lot of it already has this support, since I live in a big city. But that's not enough, there would need to be a broader adaptation, after all, a car serves to take you to other places, and how can that be done if there aren't adequate roads?

It would be interesting to have such a car, and perhaps it would be one of the best purchases for me, because, as I said before, I've never really enjoyed driving. This would be amazing and would save me a lot of effort. So I'll look forward to this happening as soon as possible, so that I can take advantage of this technology and go to various places without having to wear myself out, keep an eye out or worry about anything other than what I'm going to do when I reach my destination!

É uma tarefa como qualquer outra, e não posso negar que muitas vezes foi uma ferramenta maravilhosa em minha vida, me ajudando muito quando morava em um lugar mais afastado. Agora, se eu fosse comprar um carro, compraria um carro autônomo? A resposta seria: talvez daqui a alguns anos.

Acho que ainda está muito cedo para confiar totalmente em um carro autônomo. Apesar da tecnologia estar cada vez mais avançada, ainda não é o suficiente para que eu coloque minha vida e a da minha família nas mãos de algo em que não confio 100%. Sei que esses veículos já são eficientes em muitos aspectos e dirigem muito melhor que muitos motoristas, inclusive até melhor que eu, mas ainda não dá para confiar plenamente.

Imagine que um bug aconteça em um momento crítico... Eu não gostaria nem de imaginar! Se meu celular já apresenta bugs e meu computador também, quanto mais um carro, que poderia me colocar em risco caso isso acontecesse! Se um acidente ocorrer, não tenho a mínima dúvida de que a responsabilidade total é das empresas que o fabricaram; afinal, em um carro autônomo, você é apenas um passageiro!

Acredito que é apenas uma questão de tempo até que todos queiram ter um carro assim, mas até lá muita coisa precisa mudar. Não tenho certeza de qual tipo de infraestrutura as estradas precisam ter para acomodar esses veículos. Talvez aqui na minha cidade boa parte já tenha esse suporte, já que vivo em uma cidade grande. Mas isso não é o suficiente; seria necessária uma adequação mais ampla, afinal, um carro serve para te levar a outros lugares, e como isso seria feito se não houver estradas adequadas?

Seria interessante ter um carro desse, e talvez essa seria uma das melhores aquisições para mim, pois, como disse antes, nunca gostei muito de dirigir. Isso seria incrível e me pouparia esforço. Assim, aguardarei ansiosamente para que isso aconteça o mais rápido possível, para que eu possa usufruir dessa tecnologia e ir a vários lugares sem precisar me desgastar, ficar atento ou me preocupar com qualquer coisa que não seja o que farei ao chegar ao meu destino!
