Greetings to my beloved Hivians, it's another week to write on this interesting topic on art. Art is whatever you define it to be for you. It is subjective, and everyone's meaning to art should be appreciated.
Art is something that has been part of our lives from the time of our ancestors. Be it any form of it, they all have a meaning that relates to our existence, although it might seem complicated sometimes. The question: Does art always need to have a deeper meaning? This question is one that leaves individuals with different opinions.
But for me, I will say art shouldn't have meaning to everyone. My interpretation of a work of art can be off to another person, meaning art means different things to different individuals. Someone like me, I love painting, and the only thing I read meaning to in that is just the combination of different colors to come out with amazing art. In that same art, someone else might find another meaning to what those paintings mean.
The same goes for movies. I remember in secondary how my literature teacher would keep singing it to our eyes that drama must pass a message. For many, that's the most meaningful part of a movie as an art. Movies vary and at the same time entertain. We don't necessarily have to attach meaning to all movies; some are just there to bring us out of the other world and make us laugh away sorrows. We don't have to flinch at meaning all the time; it's normal to just sit down sometimes to stare at the television screen and watch movies that are funny.
I have heard so many attach meaning to lyrics that they don't listen to songs that don't have a meaning. They only appreciate a song when it tells a relatable story about their lives. Is not bad at all because that can be a source of inspiration. While it's not bad, though, just a simple fact, we have our different ways of appreciating art, and respecting people's choices is important.
Personally, I don't listen to songs because of the lyrics; just the beating of a song is enough for me to love it, and for me, once we like any work of art for the reason best known to us, the artist has made an impact. The subjective nature of art has made individuals have different meanings for the same thing.
I have a lecturer whose job is to sit and do criticism on sculptures in the school vicinity. He gives meaning to all and criticizes even as little as an eye if not well erected. While some artists create these sculptures for a reason, he comes to give his interpretation, but what annoys me is that he refuses to understand that every individual has a different meaning to art.
Art is art; it is only left for us to find meaning in it if we please, or we just enjoy the pleasure it gives to us. Art is something we came up to embrace, enjoying it and appreciating the creator.
