Hello guys, over the next couple of months, I'll be sharing my new journey here.
I'm beyond excited to write as I embark on agriculture training as a 400L student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (Funaab).
As I start this new phase, I'm so filled with anticipation. I'm eager to tap into the wealth of knowledge and expertise that this training offers.
🖋️It's going to be an eight months long ride.....one of which will include me going outside my school through a center called COBFAS (CENTER FOR COMMUNITY BASED FARMING SCHEME) for a training on HYDROPONICS (also known as Soilless farming) at AWOWO, Ogun State. (For three months).
🖋️We'll also be trained on Smart Agro-innovation techniques , how to use smart Apps to monitor things on the farm, and Smart Soil techniques.
🖋️We are going to learn about different Agricultural enterprises and how they are run, how farm produce are processed and packaged for sales. (Palm-oil, cassava flakes production, Bakery , Cashew production, Poultry production and so much more!)
Throughout this eight months there won't be holiday at all for us, so I'm prepared for the worse😂
I'll be diving into the world of agriculture, exploring topics like:
- Soil Science
- Crop Production (Soil and Soilless)
- Animal Husbandry
- Agricultural Economics
- and more!
I'm looking forward to getting my hands dirty (literally!), learning from experienced lecturers, and connecting with fellow students.
This week is our first week of training and we started with three days orientation, even though I went for just a day. The orientation was just to enlighten us for the journey ahead and what we should expect.
Seeing all of my coursemates and myself in our new green jumpsuit was funny. I had anticipated it throughout the holiday! We all had one thing or the other to say about ourselves. I can't imagine I'll be wearing this throughout this session. I just have to adapt to it.
We recently saw a video online of our Vice Chancellor talking about how the school is going to be involved in planting yams and making enough available and cheap for the people in the nation, even for exports. (In cooperation with the Federal government). Ever since then we've been thinking of how much stress we are going to go through, because it's so obvious that we the Agricultural trainees are the ones going to do most of the work.I won't be surprised if the small flesh I added during the holidays disappears soon. 😂
It's a session long training and I know it won't be all smooth sailing. Late nights, early mornings, and endless assignments will be part of the journey. But I'm ready to put in the work.
My ultimate goal? To become a skilled agric professional, contributing to food security, sustainable farming practices, and innovative solutions for Nigeria's agricultural sector as well as learning healthy soil techniques for crop production.
As I begin this adventure, I know that agriculture is not just a course – it's a calling. It's time to cultivate knowledge, innovation, and passion.
