D'banj The Entertainer

in Hive Learners3 days ago

Greetings!

Loving a celebrity is one habit that, although we may laugh at it, is very normal, and I am no exception. Many times, I have seen and heard people, especially preachers, speak negatively about how people go crazy for celebrities, and I laugh whenever I hear such things because, somehow, we all have those prominent personalities, including these preachers, who drive us crazy each time we hear, watch, or read about them.

As for me, I have a whole lot of celebrities that are dear to my heart, and I love everything about them. It's really very hard to choose one, but in response to this article, the one celebrity I can't avoid talking about is D'banj. Yes, go ahead and call me old school!🧐

For those of you reading this, especially Nigerians and Africans who knew Afrobeats way back in the early 2000s, there's no way one can talk about Nigerian music without mentioning D'banj or people around him, such as the likes of Don Jazzy, Wande Coal, and the rest. I fell in love with this guy when he was at his prime during the era of what was once the biggest musical crew in Nigeria, called Mo'Hits. He made massive hit tracks that are everlasting, and each time these tracks come on till today, anyone who knows good music can't help but sing along or at least nod their head.

I can't start mentioning his hit tracks because this article would end up being more than 1,000 words. The man became so popular that it earned him many nicknames. The first time he went to Jamaica, they called him Skibanj; he went to Ghana, and they called him Mensah; he went to South Africa, and he was called Kapela; and when he went to Igbo land (Eastern part of Nigeria), they called him "Osina nwata buru Ogaranya," which means he helps the young to become rich. This led to the creation of one of his most influential songs, titled Igwe.

Before the rise of today’s modern-day artists, who are making waves and selling out big arenas with their shows, D'banj's live performances were ones that couldn't be missed because he brought so much energy when it came to performing live. The man was so good that he even had his own dance signature, and when any artist uses that dance style today, they always give him credit. Teni, the Entertainer, is a big fan of both the dance and D'banj himself, which is why the two share a strong bond. Oh, by the way, Teni got the "Entertainer" name from D'banj because that was one of his titles after his 2008 album, The Entertainer.

Still talking about his signature dance, on TV shows such as Nigerian Idol and The Voice Nigeria, whenever D'banj's songs are performed, the performance can't be complete without incorporating that dance style.

During the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, D'banj set Africa on fire when he was called to perform at the closing ceremony, and guess what? Nigeria ended up winning the cup that day, and his song Top of the World was dedicated to the team.

Although D'banj is no longer at the top as he used to be, he attempted to make a comeback last month by releasing a sequel to his 2008 album The Entertainer, and it has been making waves. It takes us back to that golden time, and it's so lovely having the Koko Master back on our screens and in our ears.
Many times, I have posted about D'banj on my WhatsApp timeline and I got good responses from people on how they love the man. I don't know if there's anybody in Africa who loves music and don't like D'banj, if there is, please tell me why someone like that is created that way. 😂

Let me stop here!

That's for reading.

My guy, before the rise of these artists, Dbanj and others were ruling the industry. “It’s Dbanj” is playing in my head.

Omo people really have favorite artists o, 🤣 I guess I am the only one who doesn't have or feel special seeing an artist.
Well, it is normal sha 😂 buh seriously you know a lot about Dbanj for real.

I don't even know anything about any artists not because I don't like them but because I don't see anything different between them and the people I see every day.

I guess you lived with very serious people when you were growing up.
But for me, my parents were never into things like this, I just picked up the love for this guy naturally.

I know you will go for dbanj. I have seen your likeness for him whenever you post on your status. Dbanj was my favourite when I was very young then as I love his songs. But now, the interest is all gone.
