KEEPING MEMORIES

DURING THE JOURNEY

I love to travel and visit new places, but traveling costs money and with the rate of inflation in my country, it costs more than a lot of money 😂... Well, I’m forced to stay in one place despite loving adventures a lot. The last time I got to travel was some months back in June if I remember correctly. (Forgive me I'm not good with dates) Anyway that was like the second trip I embarked on this year despite having a lot of trips planned out for the year. I wouldn’t have even gone for this one if it was just within my power, but due to the importance of the trip, it was mandatory that I went, and not just me but my sister as well.

RANDOM PICTURES WITH UNCLES AND AUNTS I DON'T KNOW

I traveled to my father’s village for the very first time since I knew myself alongside my sister. It was my grandmother’s burial, and because I have never been to my village before, you can as well guess it was my first time seeing her in person. Although my sister had met her on few occasions when she was alive, I never got the opportunity to do so. I only got to meet her corpse though which was a not so pleasing situation. We were told to bid her our last goodbye, and as everyone entered the room where she was laid, I entered and had one of the most weird experiences of my life.

I got entangled in one of the decorations that was used in covering her coffin and even nearly fell on the corpse. Menh I was so scared and so glad it was almost. I’m sure people wondered why it took a while for me to come out of the room. Well I’m glad they are not here to read it and come up with their weird superstitions. The memory of that event haunted me for days, it was hard to get it out of my head, I mean I never knew her, was that her spirit trying to tell me something or what… I guess I will never know huh.

PART OF MY EXTENDED FAMILY

THE ONLY THING THAT MADE THE JOURNEY WORTH IT

Apart from that experience, everything else went well. It was my first time meeting a lot of my uncles and aunties, all those present at my birth who only knew me as a baby. I had a lot of greetings and smiles to do and then I got to meet my cousins for the first time. One of them liked me and was trying to come close, playing mind games to get me to collect her number and call her. She’s fine and all, I must admit we’ve got beautiful ladies in my family, but she’s my cousin, and I still see her as a child. Apart from everything I just narrated right now, it was all eating and drinking for four days.

Just reading through, I could imagine how awkward the time must have been. You'd have felt different somewhat. At least, it's a family that welcomes you. Good one.
I ask(if you will indulge me), why did you never visit there all these years prior?

Do dead people communicate? This is one of the superstitions they told us as a kid then, I'm glad you weren't carried away and Tory surely made the journey fun for you.
