I saw the internet the way you see social media. We didn't call it that back in the days. But the hability to jump into a chat room specialized in your preferences and connect with like minded people all over the planet.
Not just reading highly specialized content, but also people that will mentor you, or challenge your knowledge and share this.
For me it was IRC and Geocities and web forums. Seen the geography of the channel change as the day got to those places like Europe or Asia and the channel filled out from people from those countries.
It's totally interesting how it keeps evolving and I'm sure it's even more exciting seeing all of these changes happening to your notice.
Yes, sometimes you run so fast you think the world is going at your speed and then realize most of your friends are still stuck. Like, what you mean you never talk with a Romanian, Philippino or people from New York city. I do that every evening. LOL 😆
I think the same happen in business now. With people connecting world wide but most people just use the internet to watch funny videos while you have several businesses selling clothes, books, shows, trading and making so much money, with Bitcoin, but most of your friends struggle seen a world outside of the office.
Last night I was trying to explain a friend how to get a bank account in Switzerland, he just look at me like I was speaking an alien tongue.
Hahaha, I can just imagine all of that. It's still very surprising to see that there are so many people living like there is no internet and these cases you've given is a prove of that.
I really do have a lot to learn from you and I hope to do so henceforth
