Learning to Move Without a Map

✨ Today is Day 15 of the last month of the year 2025 already.

It feels unreal how fast the year has gone by. At the beginning of the year, many of us had dreams, resolutions, and clear goals we wanted to achieve. Others like me were just going with the flow and figuring things out day after day and trusting that clarity would come along the way. Now we have we crossed the penultimate of the year, it's only natural to pause, reflect, and ask ourselves what worked and what didn't work.

I personally fell in the category of not fully knowing what I wanted and I was figuring it out day after day. I remember preparing a small list in my notes early in January but I'm someone that doesn't really follow rigid rules or plans and is open to change. I believe growth sometimes requires flexibility, and being open to change has always been my style.

As the months went by, I was able to achieve some goals in my little list while some are still pending and I wonder if I could still accomplish them before the year finally runs out.

One of the goals I couldn't achieve this year was saving enough money to buy a guitar. I had intentions of saving money to buy and learn to play a guitar but I don't think I can do that, this year at least. Music fascinated me and the thought of learning an instrument was a personal dream. Unfortunately reality kicked in. Any little money I have is being saved up to replace my spoilt laptop.

Another major goal I wasn't able to get although I am still pushing and hoping I get this year is securing a job in tech. I landed a few gigs this year but I feel the need to work in a structured organization, even if its an internship to get tutelage. I have taken courses and built projects on my own but I believe there is need to still work formally in an organization because I believe this will help close gaps in my knowledge and experience could be heightened by doing that.

Interestingly, not all my growth this year came from planned goals. As I said, I am someone that doesn't follow rigid rules. I had a list but there were goals I ended up having that wasn't even written down. At some point, I slipped in learning to use blender for 3D modelling and I was able to reach a milestone in my learning. Although, I have not met my target for the year. It is possible and I believe I can cover the projects I set out to model before the year comes to an end.

I also planned on visiting more places in Nigeria and having fun. This sounds like the easiest goal to achieve but its somehow just difficult for me. I was thinking after I graduated school some month ago, I would be able to enjoy the perks of travelling with friends and just seeing the beauty of Nigeria. Alas, going out comes with a lot of money- spending and I can't afford that for now. My plans seem ruined but I know something good could still pop up before the year runs down and I would meet my fun and touring goals.

So for me, it's not a total failure. Some dreams are delayed, not denied, and I'm carrying them forward with hope into the new year.
