I Embarked On A Journey Of Self-Discovery And Discovered These Beautiful Talents

in Hive Learners2 years ago

Do you think every kid is blessed with talents? At least one talent? Growing up, my parents, teachers, and even Sunday school animators used to tell us how God planted talents in us, but it is on our path to discover them.

Source

To be sincere, I turn a deaf ear every time I hear them say that. “Every child is blessed with talents” in fact that sentence angered me. If every child is blessed with something, why am I exempted?

I grew up with my cousins and they all had cool talents. The one I loved the most, which made me very jealous, was my cousin with engineering ability. That guy was just so good (even now he is still good). I think I’ve talked about him in this community. The guy was so good at repairing things. He called him the family engineer. He’d pick up spoiled equipment and start loosening and tightening bolts. And then, boom! The stuff starts working again. Although I was jealous of him, I admired his talent. I wanted to be like him. I wanted to repair things just like him, maybe better than him. I tried repairing things like torchlights, but I ended up destroying them.

After destroying a lot of things, I finally gave up on that aspect and come to the conclusion that just because my cousin has that talent doesn’t mean it’d also work for me.

I wanted to be good at something so badly. I wanted the family members to praise me just like they did to my cousin. I tried different things, but they just didn’t work out. I started learning some kinds of stuff, but after a few days, I lost interest. I finally gave up and concluded that I didn’t have any talent and that the saying “Every child is blessed with talents” was fake.

Source

Little did I know that I’d been using my talent to my advantage even before I started copying the “family engineer. I was talented, but my talent was hidden from me. That is the problem most people face; their talents are hidden from them. Sometimes you might enjoy doing something and you’re very good at it, but you don’t consider it your talent because your kind is focused on something else.

I’m the kind of person that likes asking questions; deep and reasonable questions. I’ve asked a lot of people what their talent is, and what most of them say is that they don’t know.

Yes, every child is blessed with talents. No one is without at least a talent. Just because you “can’t see” your talent, doesn’t mean you should give up. You just need to embark on a journey of talent/self-discovery.

HOW OLD WAS I WHEN I DISCOVERED MY TALENT

I discovered I had hidden talent when I was in SSS1 (Senior Secondary School 1/ grade 10). Before then, I was very good at doing some things (my talents), but they were hidden from me because I wanted to be like my cousin. Before that time, I had two beautiful talents.

I fell in love with football at a very young age. Even before I knew about Cristiano Ronaldo (my role model), I was already playing football and I was very good at it. I started playing football when I was in elementary school. My parents disallowed me from playing football with the street kids because they were too rough, but I still had time to play football with my classmates in school. I also played football with my brother and cousins in the compound. I was the boss back then and they all wanted to have me on their team.

But I didn’t see my skills as something special. Well, I thought it was not as cool as repairing things. It wasn’t until I got to high school and joined the school team that I fully discovered that it was my talent. I was very happy that I had something to brag about. Yes! You should be proud of your talents- they make you special.

Another talent that was hidden from me was my writing talent. I was just 10 years old when I wrote my first novel. It wasn’t published, I just wrote it in one of my books. Sadly, it was stolen by one of my classmates. I tried to remember the plot of the story, but the only thing I remember is a word in the title “hunter”.

I was also good at writing essays and letters in English class. But these things were just normal to me. I fully discovered this talent when I was in SSS1 (Senior Secondary School 1/ Grade 10). I was 14 years old at that time.

I started writing short stories on a WhatsApp group and I discovered I was really good at it. The members of the group loved it and kept requesting more.

Embarking on a journey of self-discovery was one of the best things I ever did in my life. After discovering my talents, I started using them to my advantage.

I started playing football for a local team in my city. Although something happened and I had to leave the team, I still play football and represent my church in competitions.

Today, writing is what I do every day. Thanks to hive blockchain and the wonderful communities. Writing every day on this blockchain has helped improve my writing skills. As I did earlier, you should be proud of your talents because they make you special and stand out. I’m proud of my talents. Yes, my football skills are top-notch. I can write on any given topic provided it is within my experience.

In conclusion

I’m glad I didn’t give up on myself, that would’ve been the worst thing ever. I mean, who would I have been? How would I describe myself? I’m thankful I embarked on a journey of self-discovery and I discovered my talents.

Remember this; Every kid is blessed with talents, it is up to them to embark on a journey of talent discovery.

Thanks for reading.

They (my talents) were hidden from me because I wanted to be like my cousin.

It's a good thing that you finally gave up on being a Copycat😺😅😅and pursued your own talent(s).

Most times, our talents seems insignificant to us but we can only know the worth when we groom🧘 it and put it into use✍️.

Nicely written @justfavour 👌.

Oh yes o. I was just waiting my time being a copycat😂😂. I’m glad I finally discovered myself sha.

Thanks for stopping by, ma😊.

I don't know about your football talent but your writing is superb, and since every child is blessed with talent,it is left for us to discover it.

Wow! Smiles!

Thanks so much for your kind words. Yes, we are all gifted. It is just up to us to discover ourselves.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

In Nigeria most parents don't like children to play football. They say it distract them from their studies not knowing it's a good talent.
I have a friend that plays very well but his father said he must go to school and the boy doesn't like school.
About your writing it pretty obvious writing is one of your skill.

Nice one dear, happy you could later discover your talent.

Oh yes. My mom is a very good example. Not that she doesn’t like football because she sees it as a distraction, but because of the fear of injuries on the football field.

I understand that
Mothers are very careful and don't want anything to hurt her children
I have seen a guy that had an injury for months if not up to a year sef because he went to play football and was injured.

Yeah. Very sad. Some footballers today can't walk again because of the injury they had while playing football.

That's why your mum is scared😂

Talents are given to people differently. What you can do better, I might struggle at it. Just the way you tried copying your cousin because you want to be praised just like him, making you desperate to be an engineer but it doesn't work that way.

We have each unique talent that must be discovered on time.

Yes, princess. Our talents are what makes us unique. I’d advice people not to struggle too much to be like someone, but to discover their hidden talents.

We would discover we are also good at our own talents than copying someone because they are good at it.

You're totally right.

Thank you.

Indeed you are talented in writing, you end up frustrated if you are trying to be like someone else, even if you have the same kind of talents, yours is unique.

Yes. You’re absolutely right.

Thanks for stopp by, I really appreciate it.

You wrote a novel when you were just 10 years old and it's really admirable. Its a great talent and best wishes to you

Thanks for stopping by @anikearn.

My first novel will forever remain in my memory even though it got stolen.

“Every child is blessed with talents” in fact that sentence angered me

It angers you? Now, that's both funny and not! lol

I am glad you later got to discover yourself. Not many are able to achieve that in the long run. And perhaps our parents too should be careful in the ways they treat a child who is the not-so-good one and at the same time encouragement goes a long way!

Yes. That sentence angered me until I discovered my talents and thought otherwise.

Parents have a big role to play, instead of choosing for them, they should support.

Thanks for stopping by.

Embarking on the journey of self-discovery is a journey that every human should engage in because it will help them to achieve greatness..

Oh yes. It is a pretty interesting journey. It might be a stressful one, but greatness lies at the end of the tunnel.

Excellent write up. I love the fact that you later discovered who you are and what you can do.
Thanks for sharing.

Yup😊😊. I’m also glad I discovered myself. It is one of the best things I ever did.

We miss it out when we try to become what others are rather than finding ourselves, there is nothing more frustrating than that🤣. I can't imagine how many of those gadgets you damaged by your experiments 🙆. Copy, copy😅. Instead of envying others let us pay attention to those little things we are doing that might be where where our talents are. It is only little because we have not given it attention, build it and see what will come out of there.

Just because we didn't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist, we can never see the beauty and relevance of a thing until it is unveiled. Now that you're on your football and writing thing are you not feeling fulfilled? Everyone is talented, it is left for us to discover it and build it, Unfortunately, many will keep copying others and might never get to discover theirs until the join the angels.

Oh lol, emreal😂😂😂😂😂. I destroyed a lot of things; torchlights, usb cords, phones (this button phones), lamps.. so many things😂😂😂🤦‍♂️. Yeah, instead of wasting our time copying others, we should embark on a journey of self-discovery.

Hehe😁, our able engineer, you are doing well. If I was you dad you will have to make those revive otherwise no food for you that day. 😂

Thank God you discovered your talent, self discovery is very good. In one way your copy, copy has played a better role in promoting your to get what belongs to you. It's Nice to hear from broh

It's very obvious that writing is a skill for you, I mean just look at this post.

Using your talents is very important, even the bible makes that known so I say if you have a talent, use it well no matter if people will think it's useless. I have a friend that draws but his parents don't want him to make a career out of it before there's no money in it according to them

Oh wow! Thanks so much for your amazing words.

You see parents have a huge role to play. I know they want the best for their kids, but they should also consider their interests.

As in ehn... I know how much writing everyday has helped me. Doing it on a daily basis just another way to keep track of your progress, but in real time. You are doing well.

Thank you for sharing this with us.
