These Gadgets Only Makes Things Worse

During my days in secondary school, the government did so well by building and equipping a room that was called a computer lab. We students are allowed into the lab only when we have computer studies in our timetable. So many students weren't so interested in making use of the lab as it was so inconvenient walking from the class to the lab and all that.

On my part, I was somehow interested, which led me into going for a diploma in computers after my secondary school. Fast forward to university: the same thing happened; we had a computer room and WiFi, which most students made use of, and some people found no need of using it because Android phones were just evolving, and some students made use of it rather than going to the lab.

Allowing students to have access to their phones, especially those in secondary school, during class and exams will be a big disaster for society in the long run. This phone is good, but there is this kind of addiction it brings that even the adult finds it so difficult to overcome it. Imagine as an adult the last thing you handle before going to bed at night is your phone, and the first thing to handle in the morning is also your phone. I have a secondary school boy in my house; one thing I noticed from him is that he has this form of attachment to any gadget. He can eat for two hours because there is a gadget in front of him. When I noticed this, I did my best to separate him from these gadgets. Though it was not easy for me at all at first, I was able to overcome it.

The only time I allow him with a phone is when he has homework to do. I either switch on my hotspot or subscribe the phone, and immediately he is done; he submits it back to me. At times these rules work, and at other times, when he feels he is not conscious, he wants to do his things. Imagine the other day he told me that the phone was misbehaving, and he was not able to continue with his assignment. Shortly, I observed he was playing games. When I collected the phone, I noticed he normally freezes the game apps and unfreezes them at will.

There is this particular school in one state in my country that the parents complained about the poor performance of the children. After the parents teachers meeting, they collectively agreed to destroy the phones of the students because, according to them, the phone is one major reason why they are not doing well. I watched the video as these students used a stone to smash their phones. It was so touching, but at the same time, a good thing they did.

Many students now have this confidence that they will be allowed to use gadgets during the external examination; that is why when you tell them to study, they look at you as if you are old-fashioned. Most schools encourage exam malpractice, and that is why there are lots of people who don't know their left from their right in most establishments. Things are going so badly, and these kinds of people are everywhere. Imagine one of those days

That was so bad; all that didn't start now, but it is as a result of a behavior that has been over time. There is time for everything; it is one we should keep repeating in the ears of this younger generation.
