Chatting got better with stickers.

in Hive Learners2 years ago

The social world got more interesting with the adoption of stickers, emojis, and gifs. The vibes it brings to chatting on social apps is something else and It surprises a lot of people to know that these things existed decades before we started using them in my part of the world. A lot of developed countries started using them early and we didn't get to know these things in Nigeria until the use of data-enabled phones became available to lots of people.

If I am not mistaken, I read that emojis have been in existence for over two decades but they didn't become very popular until 2010. I started using emojis a long time ago but before I became fond of them, I always get pissed when people reply me with an emoji instead of words during a serious conversation. I have friends who were obsessed with it and I find chatting with them annoying until I also became an addict.

I don't know who thought of creating those images to express our feelings but the person has done a great job we are enjoying today. Emojis were everyone's favorite until stickers became the trend.

Stickers are pictures, 1-2 secs clips sometimes with text and they give more details when expressing your feelings, thoughts, or describing a situation. They are more interesting to use than emojis and I couldn't resist the trend, I fell in love with the use of stickers like millions of people did across the world.

I don't see much difference between gifs and stickers. Gifs sometimes have a longer duration which makes it give a better understanding of your thought or feeling and the file size is always larger than that of stickers.

My obsession with stickers is something else and the conversation doesn't get spicy without applying them and I am looking forward to the time when they can be used during official conversation. I once tried it and my area manager was pissed, I don't know why he took it personally but I can tell that he is boring and sad.

There are some things I might want to say during a conversation that the other person would find annoying but because stickers carry expressions that can make you laugh even though you find it annoying, I opt-in for stickers instead of words.

Even though it will piss the person off, it wouldn't be as much as typing those things as a message. I mostly do this with my superiors at work then or while chatting with an older person who doesn't like to be corrected.

I have had several embarrassing times using stickers and that's the price I paid for my obsession with stickers. I was in charge of the church's social media in 2020 and we do hold sessions on WhatsApp.

We were having this worker's meeting online and the conversation became really interesting. After the pastor was done, we continue chatting and it got more interesting. Someone used a sticker and I quickly opened my sticker to reply with a sticker.

I was scrolling through and I mistakenly tapped a naughty sticker. I deleted it immediately but those who were active online saw it. Some people were even fast to screenshots and they teased me about it for a long time.

If I could make a change to sticker usage while chatting, it would be my device asking me to confirm if that sticker is the exact one I want to use to prevent me from using the wrong stickers unintentionally.

Whether emojis, stickers, or GIFs, I enjoy using them because it helps me express myself using pictures which saves me time as well.

My big sis detest using stickers as she gets mad when we communicate using stickers. She had no choice but to accept it like that. Though she doesn't use it as she is more of emojis, but she always cracks up when we send funny stickers to her. Still cannot change her mind to like stickers too 😔

I really love using stickers to express my feelings and emotions and having one who understands better makes the conversation fun and interesting.

I usually don't like it as well but with time, I understood how well they can be used to express our feelings.

I enjoy using stickers now and I can tell it's fun because of the vibes it brings to the conversation.

His reaction might just be dependent on the relationship between you two or the sort of conversation you were having. Using these emojis/stickers come off as inappropriate in most conversation setting.

Personally, I add emojis in my chats. Sometimes tho. I haven't found my way around stickers and gifs but I enjoy seeing sticker fights.

The man feels like frowning is the only way to make people respect him whereas you can be friendly and still be respected.

I love sticker fights too, my fiance and some of my younger siblings love challenging me and they turned me into someone who saves every sticker I found on different WhatsApp groups.

Oh! I get his kind.
That's on him tho.

Okay this is hilarious😂
That'll be so much I know.
I should start saving some. My friends try to battle with me but I never reciprocate.

Am sure the person that create emojis doesn't like to talk too much that is why he or she created emojis because I make use of emojis when I don't feel like chatting or typing too much

Lolz, I didn't think that way but that might be true. Regardless of whatever reason it was created, we are enjoying emojis, stickers and gifs.

Lol...I am the worst person to chat with I feel emojis and stickers are made for me, though most people don't like it, bt I love it, like which other way am I supposed to express myself without emojis or stickers...I don't use GIFS though.

This is the comment of a true sticker lover. Honestly, how best should I explain myself if not with stickers?

I enjoy using stickers a lot, it's fun.

Lolz... Just like you, I was never a big fan of emojis especially when I'm in a serious discussion. I preferred letters and I never used Emojis until 2 years ago. That was when I started using emojis and it's been a very interesting adventure.

As for stickers, I think that's more popular in WhatsApp. I'm not yet a big fan of WhatsApp so I don't use that one. Hehe.

Well, all these can still be really annoying when used out of proportion, but if it's used rightly, it can make chats more interesting. Hehe

I use emojis very few. But I have to accept that it helps us to make our conversation smoother and better. It helps us to make our expression understandable to the person who read the messages.
In my case, I use the 😅 most.

Conversation without this trio won't be fun at all, funnyy, I also found them annoying at first too, how see how we are all addicted to using them now.😄

I love stickers alot, I have so many of them on my phone. I would say I express myself the most with the use of stickers. It's fun

I think you mistook stickers for GIFs at a point. GIF are motion photos, unlike stickers which are still photos.

Although both capture moments in time, and there expressions are as you stated. Really dope. Great article by the way.
