An Adventure To The Life Saving Rock

in Hive Learners8 months ago (edited)

Hello Hivelearners, it’s a new week again and what better way to start the week than talking about adventures. Well, according to the prompt topic

If you had the resources and opportunity to go on an adventure of your choosing, any adventure at all, what would it be? And why that particular one? What do you hope to achieve with that adventure?

Actually there is a place I have always wanted to visit in my country, this place is located at the south-west side of the country (Nigeria) and the name of the place is called “OLUMO ROCK

Olumo Rock is located in Ogun state, Abeokuta to be precise. The meaning of Abeokuta means Under the rock, and currently Abeokuta is the city capital of Ogun state. There is a brief history about this place, it is said that people who visited that place are always having magical encounters.

OLUMO Rock has a pretty interesting and intense history to it.

Olumo Rock is a mountain in south-western Nigeria. It is located in the city of Abeokuta, Ogun State, and was normally used as a natural fortress during inter-tribal warfare in the 19th century. Its patron spirit is venerated in the Yoruba religion as an orisha. The name olumo is the combination of two words: "olu" which means god/deity, and "mo" which means moulded.

Historically, the rock was a natural fortress for the Egbas during inter-tribal warfare in the 19th century. It provided protection to the Egba people when they needed it, and is now held in high esteem by the members of the clan

According to the history I was told by my dad. He said when the people of Egba were facing war from their rival clan, there was nothing they could do because the Egba people were mostly farmers and not fighters. Many time, their village were attack by this rival clan (The Fulani’s) and the older men and boys would be killed. It was then the Egba people vacated their village and fled for their life, when they were on the run for their life. They stumble upon this rocks. To their amazement the rock had rooms in it so they hid there for days and no harm came to them. Little by little they started growing their populations and that gave birth to the current Egba clan that we have now.

There are three mysteries about this rock. It is said that at the top of the rock, a tree grew upon the rock and it has been there since the time the rock was found till this present day.

Also, there is a place inside the rock that droplet of water keeps falling and never stops. It is said that anyone with any illness takes from that water, they would be whole again. Currently, the king of the kingdom has kept this place a secret from tourism and outsiders.

Lastly, the pot of coin. This pot wasn’t mounded or created by anyone. It was found inside the rock and it is said that any coin that is kept inside the pot will be double after 5 days. Many people go their to drop their coin in it but I doubt anyone went back to check.

This is enough reason for me to want to take my adventure to a magical and mystical place. If I drop my coin in it, I’m definitely going back to take a double coin.

I haven't visited Olumo before but I have seen the place from a distance and it's a beauty to behold.

We read a lot of history about the place as kids and it's impossible not to visit such a place when we have the opportunity. Olumo is beautiful and it would be an adventure that will create lasting memories for us.
