It is that time of the year once again, the festive season. The time when everything is put to rest and everyone gathers in twos and threes to enjoy the holidays. This year is a lot different from other years which will greatly influence how the holidays will be spent. For other years, during this time of the year, I'm usually planning on traveling back home to enjoy the holidays but for this year, I have been home for a couple of months now ever since I came back from service.
Which means the destination for celebrating the festivity is already determined. I don't have to worry about anything relating to traveling or the stress that comes with it. I'm currently in Lagos with my family, my family and I being Christians, we celebrate the festive season in a grand way. In this time of the year, our house is usually crowded. I believe it is only during this time of the year I'm privileged to see some of my extended families.
For people who are not familiar with my family, based on how grand the celebration of the festive season is, you might think I have a very large family circle but not really. There are some of them I haven't seen or spoken to since last year but since my parent strongly believe in family bonding, they like having our family members around to celebrate the festive season with them.
They all visit to celebrate the festive season with us, starting from next week, some of them will start arriving till we have a full house. My family puts a lot of efforts in the planning process of the festive season, it is like end of the year party for the family, It has been this way for years. Everyone have a role to play in the planning process of the holiday celebration but mine will definitely start very early this year. Being home early comes with some disadvantages, it means I will have to be in charge going to market to get stuff.
Though I believe this will change next year because younger siblings are old enough to handle the wheels, though my dad find it difficult to trust my siblings because they have all this fast and furious imaginations in their head whenever they handle the wheels. It is the kind of imagination that exist in the mind of most teenagers. I believe in a couple of years, they will know better.
Going to the market on behalf of the family can be fun sometimes but I have never been a fan of crowded places. Everyone needs to play a part in the whole planning process, we have a lot of mouth to feed during this time of the year. I don't think I have ever celebrated the festive period without being with my family, I don't think I know any other way of enjoying the holidays without being with my family, it has been this way for years and it will continue to be so. Apart from the fun that comes with it, I wouldn't want to give up the free food part.
