It is good to have someone in life whom we look up to inorder to become what we desire. Having a role model is something I consider very good and every body should atleast get one if possible. A role model is just like a guide to arriving at the destination of the future. It won't be wrong if we call a model a living example. Over the years I have seen many people whose life style I really admire and wished to become like them someday. Their current achievements makes me feel like becoming like them instantly. Each time I see a man or woman who has achieved something big in life I become charged and desire to be like them. It is a natural thing with humans we love good testimonies. We want to become great . We never want to become mediocres . Something funny just dropped on my mind while writting this, and I would love to share it with you. Do you know that the degree to which men hate mediocrity can make us almost refuse to stay or relate well with those whom fate has caught up with in mediocrity? Young men don't want to see anything that partains failure at all, in fact some people wouldn't like to see people whom have achieved only but little in life. Probably they feel their condition might transfer to them so they better stay far away. We believe that success is only when you have all the money in the world, all the assest, and fame, it is part of it. But achieving the main purpose is one's life is the greatest success. It's not only the rice that can impact life, that is where many people make mistake and end up going for wrong role models
Therefore when we talk about role models almost everyone would be rushing towards with celebrities, stars, those with a lot of money, a lot of assets and influence. That is what we want. Who wants to be little? So we rush to towards them hoping that some day we might eventually become like them or more. Only few individual would go for role models we are not celebrities, people whom the world doesn't really recognize. Silently in the heart of every man is pride. How can I talk about someone who has just a house and a motor cycle as my role model? We want it when everyone maintains silence when we mention the names of our models. Yeah!!! We want to be successful people of which is a very nice thing but we some times miss it out completely.
Do we really know the essence of having role model? Is it all about them? Is it about their affluence and achievements? I thought we were supposed to have an image of someone who look directly to and adjust our lives so that we can become what the future awaits for? Many don't know that our role models are supposed to be like a peep into our future selves. We end up making wrong choices of role models and try to live lives that are not ours. We really go for celebrities whose life we don't really know, we only admire what we see them display on the outside neglecting what goes on inside. If some of us would see what happens behind the scenes in the lives of some of our so called role models, We would quickly quit them as our role models and choose our beloved parents instead. A role model should be someone whose life can impact your life positively. Someone whose life can make you become who you desire. Someone would trim your life by the way he lives his own life , not someone who would get you into confusion by making you live fake.
Do I have a role model?
Well I don't have a role model yet, but there are many people whose life style I really admire but I don't want to be like them I want to be whom I am supposed to be. Though through their lives I have seen a lot of things and made many necessary adjustments to become who I am supposed to be. We can never be fulfilled in life when we try to become like others, we would end up living the live that is not ours. Often I look unto my maker for perfection and not unto men. He is the only mirror that can show me truly whom I am to be. Like I said there are many people that I admire their lifestyle. Every man has lapses, as far as am concerned that man you are looking forward to become like is also struggling with some aspects of life. It would be very dangerous for me to say I want to be like that person. It would be better to peep and learn the good aspect but not copy his life or try to live it because I would be fake. That is not my life, I am entirely different from him. Copying him would limit me and leave me void of what I am truly supposed to be.
Nevertheless if must have a role model, below are some of the things I would put into consideration before choosing him/her;
1 . Communication : when communication is breached, relationship will eventually die. I would need someone whom atleast I can reach if not always but atleast from time to time. So that we can talk and understand each other better. There is no how he could help me if he doesn't know me well and for him to know me we would need a very good communication. That means, I can't choose someone who I can not reach as my role model. I would need someone I can discuss my challenges with not someone I would be seeing on television or news paper.
2 . Sincerity : in my life there is nothing I respect more than openness. I would love to have a truthful role model, someone that is honest with everything. I would not like a situation where you would just be lying to me just because you want to maintain some level of relevance. Tell me the truth no matter how bitter it is. Don't fake your life, remember I am looking forward to become like you. Don't be fake, just be who you are if possible, let me know your weaknesses it would help me a lot. Don't act like super man when you are not.
3 . Achievements : sincerely speaking, I can't pick someone who is still coming up or has ran the race of life and has nothing at the end to show for it as my role model, atleast let me see some evidence that after watching your life for some period of time, I will be rest assured that I will have something to account for it too someday. If you don't have anything tangible that you have achieved then it means that you are a failure and I can't look up to a failure, chap! 🤣
4 . Other special attributes like, commitment, selflessness, determination, diligence, love, accountability e.t.c the truth is sometimes you can't not find all this things in a person. Flesh is always flesh, men would always have lapses. If it is perfection that one wants before choosing a role model, then it means that the person is not ready yet. But at least be someone worthy of emulation. Try you best to be good.

Yeah, many people call out celebrities and famous people as their role models which leads them to live lives that aren't theirs just because they want to be rich and affluent like their role models.

Many of us look up to celebrities as role models, but we can be a role model for a lot of people, just go our own way and have love and compassion for others, making this passage through life a little better for everyone.

Be yourself and do your part for a better world. We can all be role models in a positive or negative way. But if we believe that we can make this world a better world for everyone, then we are on the right track.

Well.... you are so straight forward in the things you said about role models.. it's true some folks will entertain the idea but everyone is entitled to their opinions and values they hold.
We see life differently...so it implies that we as humans do things in our own ways. I have a role model but what if I say that role model is me??..
