I am currently listening to Back in Black by Amy Winehouse. Here is a YouTube link to the song so you can join me in listening to this beautiful and awesome gift to the world as you read through my post.
When it comes to music, I listen to everything. EVERYTHING. As an aspiring professional musician, I have a very broad range of interests and try to draw inspiration from as many sources as I possibly can. From blues, to rock, to jazz, to metal, to afrobeats, to choral and classical music, to soul, to unlikely fusions of multiple genres—I listen to them all, which makes for a very interesting listen on Spotify when I put it on shuffle mode😂.
However, after exposing myself to, and experimenting with multiple genres over the years, I have come to unequivocally believe with no iota of doubt that I connect with the 💙 Blues the most. Thee is just something about the blues that I can't quite put my finger on that just excites me wildly in ways I can't even begin to comprehend or articulate into words.
The late Quincy Jones, legendary producer of Michael Jackson's 1984 Thriller album, said, “your music can never be more or less than you are as a person.” Following that statement, I will say that my personality being very contemplative, introspective, jovial, and adventurous among other things certainly contributes greatly to my musical tastes, especially my love of The Blues💙.
Music makes me feel. End of sentence. In this short year alone, there have been multiple instances where I had goosebumps while listening to music. It moves me so much that I really want to do music professionally just so I can keep having these deep moments of fulfillment it gives till the day I die.
It is practically impossible for me to pick a singular favorite song among the plethora of awesome songs I listen to repeatedly. Currently, my playlist has shifted to A Woman's Worth by Alicia Keys. Now it's playing She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5. And I do genuinely believe these are all some I could play repeatedly for hours on end without getting bored.
In the midst of my feelings impeding me from being able to pick out just one song, I will rely on objective statistics.
My most played song on Spotify last year was Magnolia, a song written written by JJ Cale and prerecorded recently by Eric Clapton and John Mayer. By the way, if you didn't know any of these artistes before now and you're reading this, you absolutely should check them out!
I posted about this song on my WhatsApp status yesterday and described it in one word—silky.
Here is a YouTube link to the song if you would care for a quick listen.
I can't remember what my most played song on YouTube music was at this time, however, my most listened to artiste was Tommy Emmanuel, coz why not? For those who don't know him, Tommy Emmanuel is undoubtedly one of the best acoustic guitarists ever, and no, I'm not exaggerating. He has been a huge influence on me, especially in my early years of learning music. While, he is primarily a fingerstyle guitarist, he does have a few performances where he sings along. I have linked one of such performances here as a worthy introduction for those who do know know him yet.
Here is the YouTube link.
In conclusion, music is something that is not just external for me. My identity is music, or at least, I am on the path to making it so.
I do hope you enjoy listening to the songs I have picked out and posted here. Ciao.
As I finish this post, my Spotify is playing Fallin' by Alicia Keys.
I can so relate, music is life, Blues is also my favourite genre of music
Wow, that's very impressive. It's not so common to see a Nigerian mention blues as his or her favorite kind of music. Keep it up.
Your references are great, I share the same musical taste for some of the artists you mentioned. At the moment, I’m listening to Tommy Emmanuel, whose link you shared in your post. It’s my first time listening to him, and it’s really cool!
That's great. I'm happy to have inducted one extra person into the hall of fame of Tommy Emmanuel listeners😂.
I know what the blues is "gladly" I loved the blues sometimes but not often, sometimes I would feel like listening to something else. I can say it's just based on my mood though.
Preferred music is largely based on moods, and can vary from time to time, and that's okay.
A lovely taste of songs you have here, I will do well to join you in listening to some of them I already find interesting.
Thanks for sharing this bueaty with us dear friend.
You're very welcome💯
