In these past few days, I’ve been engaged in this annoying back-and-forth with my Redmi smartphone and at this point, it’s becoming frustrating. As a matter of fact, I’m getting tired because it seems I’ve been sucked into the endless loop where I’ll be doing the same thing over and over again, getting the same results, but paying a slightly higher price every time.
And what exactly is this thing I’m so angry about? It’s the bloody updates that come up on my phone. For a while, I was using it fine. Mine is not the kind that automatically updates, I set it to manual because I don’t want it to suddenly start updating, or rebooting when I’m in the middle of something. So, I set it to manual, knowing I’d activate it when I’m good and ready for it.
However, for the first time in a long time, I decided to try updating my software. I know that these updates come with a lot of new features and many times, they make the phone more seamless and enjoyable when making use of the phone. So, I finally decided to update the phone and I did it.
It didn’t take long at all, which was quite good, and just as expected, it came with some new features that I loved. However, it also took away some features, something I didn’t enjoy at all. Especially the feature that allows me to use multiple wallpapers on my lock screen. Now, I can only use factory wallpaper and it can’t even be more than one. Just boring!
On the flip side though, they were able to fix the fingerprint response. Many times, the fingerprint sensor has a response time that’s slowed down by a few seconds. This can be annoying when I’m busy shuffling across apps as I’m multitasking with my phone or trying to beat a deadline. I can't go through every single upgrade they made to the software, but I can only tell you that the upgrade only lasted for a few days maximum.
Yeah, a few days ago, I woke up and found out that yet another update was available! You can imagine my surprise. I had yet to fully flex the one I just installed and yet they were presenting me with another. The first upgrade I did had a size of over 4gig. The next one was 4.5gig. It stayed on my phone for a while, but I didn’t like it because they keep popping up at the oddest times when I’m busy and it was frustrating. So, I just did the damn upgrade.
This one also came with new features, new themes and even sweet new fonts. It basically transformed my phone and gave it a more slick feel. It was all good, right? Now, tell me why I woke up today and found yet another upgrade. Like, are these guys updating their software every three market days? Shouldn’t they allow us to enjoy each one before they bring in a new one?
Now, I don’t know if I should upgrade yet again, or if I should wait for another one. Because it won’t be funny if I do this and they choose to release another one by tomorrow. It’s just tiring! I’m yet to decide what I’ll do. I could end up upgrading it. The size is 4.7 gig, which is almost 5gig which is already a lot! It wouldn’t be funny at all if it turned out to be for nothing.
I’m just hoping that this will be the last time I see these updates for the foreseeable future. Because I’m simply tired!!!

I had the first Redmi lahnced in indian market and there after I never went for it again. Even they are cheaper Herr but now I understand the importsnce if branding. Samsung handset are much better in comparison to these Chinese make.....I had for 6 years and now replace with another Samsung model. The most reliable.
As in ehn... the phone serves me well, only small glitches here and there. I'm getting ready for a change soon as well.
That could be so annoying, who is paying for all those updates. I was told of Redmi by a friend but on a second thought I decided to go for the one am used to which is Infinix and am still at home with it.
Just enjoy your updates while it lasts 😜😜
As in ehn... these people want to finish me with updates ooo! But what can I do?
That's annoying, why are updates so often ? And they aren't even free. If you upgrade the 3rd time then you've spent about 13gb for upgrade in one week 😂😂
They are high. If the difference between each update isn't so much then I'd rather wait for a month before updating it, at least when I'd finally upgrade I will be meeting the most recent update.
As in ehn... even my work doesn't take that much data in a week. It's just annoying, I swear. But then, what can I do? I hate the constant pop-ups and no matter how many times I get rid of it, it keeps coming back!
That's one big red flag for them o. It doesn't make any sense and not worth it jare
Thank you for this.
You should have snapped your surprising face and show us here on hive 🤣🤣... Imagine another 4.5 gig..oh boy... at every market days.. lolz
Well, I was using redmi...infact, I still use it but this time, any day I feel like... their system update is always annoying and frequently with large data size..kilode
Hehe...
I'm still yet to update it. I've not decided just yet. Let them just stay a while.
It's indeed annoying to see updates again and again on smartphones. I think most of the updates are meaningless as I didn't see any improvement after the updates.
As in ehn... they don't really make any major changes. Just all for looks and aesthetics.
