While growing up, I had multiple dreams about what I wanted to be when I grew up. The dream of the day relied heavily on what I was going through at the time. However, my choice of occupation back then was greatly influenced by environmental factors.
If only our wishes came true while we were children, by now we would have had so many career changes and it would be impossible to keep track. And then, each career would be based on the mood we’re feeling at the time. So, if something were to happen and we didn’t like the occupation anymore, we simply changed it.
If only life as an adult was just as easy.
I wanted to be a lot of things when I grow up, and the first of them was to be a footballer. Back then, I still played ball and I enjoyed watching the sports on the TV. I loved it so much that when I’m done watching it, I’ll go out of the house to play more football just like the players I witnessed on TV.
Honestly, seeing my love for the game during my childhood, it’s kind of shocking because now I don’t care about it. I don’t play and I don’t watch football, the only time I can be persuaded is when I’m with my friends and they ask me to watch the match with them. Have you tried watching a game with your friends? Watching in a private place where you’re allowed to scream as loud as you want and curse at the players. It’s next level!
But then, just like my sandals at the time, I grew out of the phase and moved on with my life. My next obsession was to become a Priest. Honestly, I don’t even know why I wanted this in the first place. I guess the priests around me must have influenced me greatly.
However, from their unique dresses to their beautiful houses, there was a time that Priests seemed to have it all. They looked like they lacked for nothing, and everything just landed in their lap. I was certain that if I became one like them, I’ll be on a soft life.
However, when I found out just how hard it could be to become a priest, the dream turned to chaff in my mouth and it was a while before I was able to find someone else with a dream. And it was around this time I developed the wish to become an engineer.
By this time, I was already showing promise by fixing the faulty switches and sockets in the house. So electrical engineering seemed like a no-brainer to me. I decided that was what it was going to be for me. I’ll be in the science department so I’ll study Electrical Engineering.
I found out just how good of a writer I was when I was in SS1 when one of my readers confessed it to me. By then I was already immersed in the science department and I just could not bring myself to change in one bit.
However, as time went on, I realized that my skill as a writer could be very much capable of catering to my needs as long as I know how to manage my time diligently. And if I was serious about this, I could still become the engineer I’ve always wanted to be.
And today… I write for a living and I’m studying Electrical Engineering at the Higher Institution. These are not what I pictured I would be doing as an adult, but then I’m not complaining at all. I have come to love this lifestyle life has given me and even if I had the chance, I wouldn’t change it. They are really beautiful and I would do nothing to harm them.
That’s just how much they mean to me.
Childhood time we could easily manipulated by others and situation and desired to be many things. But after growing up we desired for something fixed. But can we be the desired one or not depends on our capabilities and luck.
Growing up, we learned more about how the world worked and our place in it. That helped in making an informed decision about what we want out of life.

You don't watch football? Your kind of guys are rare bro. I imagined being a priest too when I was a kid. Seeing the gift they give to them every Sunday was the motivation for me, but then when I heard I will be staying without a woman and not getting married 😂, Changed my mind instata. That was the spoiler for me.
Hehe... Football is not for me. And priesthood isn't either. Let all of us just stick to our strengths biko.

As kids we all had big dreams until life happened, If the life I imagined as a kid becomes a reality ehhh 😂😂.
Hehe... soft life for me. I won't even consider any form of work anymore.

When a person is young, he thinks a lot and wants to become a doctor or an engineer. As time goes by man becomes wiser and then he has only one goal in his life then he achieves it by working hard day and night. Real life begins after the age of twenty.
Real life does set in, and he has to consider all factors before choosing how he'll settle down.
Indeed... most of us venture into paths we never planned for, we just make things up as we go because the more plans we make, the more obstacles life throws our way.
