From home

Let me start with a bible verse which states that we should train up a child in the way that they should go so that when they are old, they will not turn from it. And then, there's another saying which states that Charity begins at home.

You know, I have always had this argument that however a child turns out, has a lot to do with where that child is coming from because, the home is the foundation and the first point of contact. I'll say that societal ills has nothing on a child with a solid upbringing.

Parenting as we all know it, is a full-time job. We sacrifice a portion of our lives, especially as a mom to give our children theirs. You are either loosing a part of yourself or you are raising rubbish who will later grow up to be nuisance in the society.

Another thing is, parenting is not for the parents alone. Personally, when I see a child acting out of line, I do not keep quiet and always go further to requesting for their parents if need be.

Sometimes, people will tell me to mind my business and allow people to raise their child how they deem fit, forgetting that this child or children will go out and mix up. It is worthy to note that once a child is born, they become everyone's responsibility because one way or the other, our future is dependent on how each child or children turns out.

A child raised with love and an equal amount of discipline will have empathy. The child raised with no love and care will have no regards for anyone. We always cannot get it 100% as parents, but we can try to get it above average. The best upbringing I will always recommend is to STUDY the child and groom them accordingly.

As an adult, there are certain things I would want to do but when I think of home, I remember my parents and where I am coming from, I'd just maintain because the last thing I'd want to do is to be a disgrace to my family or make my parents feel they failed in training me.

Both my parents were actively involved in the life of my siblings and me. My mother did all the discipline and my father gave all the love. Then we see how they treat themselves, yes how parents treat each other also forms character development for the child or children.

My siblings and I were not exposed to any form of violence, we never saw our parents fight or hurt themselves with words. Hence, we had a mentally sound childhood.

Going forward, they raised us with examples and then gave us the liberty to choose the path to go. We were beneficiaries of freewill.

We grew up in a ghetto area, we lived with prostitutes, cultists, and sometimes prisoners would escape from prison and seek refuge in our compound.

My parents made it a point of duty to always tell us about the two sides of life and being that we saw what life in the ghetto felt like, we wanted better for ourselves.

Despite living in the ghetto, we attended the best schools in the area, and we saw how sweet the other side of life was from our rich classmates, especially when we go to visit their houses.

We got into Uni and peer pressure had nothing on us. We knew where we were headed, we understood the assignment and the pace our parents already set for us to follow.

Up until this very moment, the thought of our parents still influences the actions of my siblings and me.

Parenting is not easy, but we as parents need to bring up the child the way he or she would be fit to.
Raising a child cannot end with the parents alone, but also with those around. This is why it is necessary to train up the child in the best way.

True. It's a collective effort
