Listening is one of the four language skills that we have and actually listening is the major one. Why did I say that? It is the first and we can't have second and third if there was no first. So, it lays the foundation for other skills.
The first thing a child does as far as language is concerned is listen. It will take a little time before the child can speak, but because he or she has 👂 ears, listening comes first. After that the child starts learning how to speak back those words that has been spoken several to him or her. That is why speaking comes second and the we have reading and writing. These are the four language skills arranged below according to their ranking:
- Listening
- Speaking
- Reading
- Writing
Listening can be seen or understood as the ability to hear someone, understand what is been said and interpret what is been said. Now the reason for all these explanation is because if there is no understanding and interpretation of what was said then listening has not taken place.
The topic today has a lot to do with our activities everyday. We hear people talk every day and everywhere we go to every day. But the ability to understand what was said and act by it makes all the difference. Someone can tell me something now and thinks that I heard him or her, but when I start reacting to what was said is when it will be clear wether I heard or not.
HEARING ON A DEEP LEVEL
I think I want to speak for myself first. Because of this topic I am beginning to think that I need to work on myself right now. I think that I most times don't listen to people so deep like that before reacting. Maybe sometimes I just react out of emotions without understanding what the person is saying and maybe I should start working on it right now. Yes. I really need to do that.
PEOPLE AROUND ME
I think that I have got the most amazing people around me as a gift from God. First my husband. He is such an amazing listener. Though sometimes I don't really get the answers that I want when I talk to him, but he is an amazing guy who loves to listen to me and sometimes even explains it more than I thought. Secondly my kids and other family members. I think is only a few of them that gives me headache when it comes to listening on a deep level and is well understood because everyone can not be the same. There are these set of people that understands and for some you need to give them some time to reason with you.
In conclusion, the art of listening is a very good thing to do and when we understand the people around us and give them a befitting feet back every one will be okay.
