Same Place Different Light - the advantage of having go to spots

When you wander aimlessly as much as I do you find little gems that work in all kinds of conditions

These go to spots make it easy to shoot a good composition on short notice.

With a wide angle lens and a perch on a little rock outcropping this scene along Kamloops Lake has been in my photos many times. This image I was out on a sunset shoot. I took this photo as a consolation prize after the sunset fizzled to nothing.

However, on Thanksgiving 2021 (cdn one) we had a fantastic aurora storm and this spot was one I wanted to shoot the aurora at for some time. I was able to drive out and walk about a half km into this place and simply wait for the train and aurora to align.

Having spots you can go to with short notice is essential for any photographer. The trick is to keep the really good ones to yourself. 😉
