The Visitors ...

We have some resident swans on the village ponds where I live. Every so often, they like to come across the road for a visit.

Swans are natural wanderers, especially when they are looking for food. Even when they have cygnets, they will march their young to different ponds in the village when they are only a few days old.

Over the years, there's even been times I haven't been able to get in my car as a swan has been lying next to the door. Can you imagine trying to explain to your boss why you are late? Mr Swan especially likes to look at his reflection in the side of my car or in the wing mirror. I think he thinks it's another swan.

When they get a little bit too close, you know it's time to leave. They have very sharp, serrated edges in their beaks, and you don't want to be on the receiving end of them.

And don't get me started on my neighbours VERY free range chickens ....

This post is for #sublimesunday inspired by @c0ff33a and #beautifulsunday initiated by @ace108.

What a delightful story about your resident swans! Sounds like you may have to change your swan-mobile or a different colour. Get a convertible where you can pop up the top and hop in. 😎

That's a good idea. They insist on spitting on my wing mirror as well. It's not a good look. 😁

That's strange. I google a bit but couldn't found anything about them spitting.

I've been reliably informed that they leave a saliva residue on mirrors. Usually this is around mating/nesting season as they think it is a rival bird.

So, it'll spit on the competitor. 🤔

They get very territorial and can get very vicious with interlopers, even killing them, so I'm sure some saliva will be exchanged!

I've seen parent swans trying to get their own offspring to leave the nest, to the point of nearly killing them also. I've had to rescue a few cygnets in my time.

You couldn’t make it up! 😁
