Sublime Easter Sunday with Friends, Family and Grilled Lamb

A beautiful Easter time and a dream Sunday come to an end. The lamb as a sacrifice itself has an old tradition in Easter, but it is rare that a whole lamb is grilled for Easter in our region.
My brother-in-law came up with this idea a few decades ago and since then this also became a tradition in our family: grilling a whole lamb, celebrating Easter with friends and family in this way.

After two years of forced break due to restrictions, it was finally time again today and everyone was super happy about this successful day.

The lamb came freshly slaughtered from the organic farm in the region. The evening before it is fixed on the grill spit and pickled with lots of garlic, oregano and olive oil. In the morning at 8h am the fire is lit in the grill, because the lamb needs a very long time to become cooked and crispy.

The dog noses were already very excited and challenged. Also, guarding the barbecue area was probably an extremely important task ;-) Since my niece also brought her dogs, we had 4 dogs here this time, which was a bit of a challenge because two of them do not like each other.

When the lamb is finished grilling, it is chopped into pieces and put in a pot so as not to cool down too much.

At 2h pm it was finally ready to eat. In addition, there was as always: homemade tsaziki, Greek farmer's salad, feta cheese, olives and a delicious, simple pita bread that my sister bakes especially for this.

It tastes delicious, even if I get more and more into an ethical quandary about the lamb every year, whether it really has to be this way.

The following pictures show what remains from the lamb, whereby the later, of course, all the remaining meat is cut down and utilized, since none of it is thrown away, except the remaining bones.

Who wonders where the feet are, they were sawed off and frozen. Will be grilled or fried at some point. It would have been too big for the grill with the feet.

Seeing these pictures may shock some, but I hope not and you can handle it well. We all like to eat way too much meat and as long as it comes in the form of a finished steak or sausage on the table it's fine, but seen as a whole animal it becomes sometimes difficult for us to eat it.

After the main dish we had sweet desserts: strawberry roullade and apple slices.

And afterwards I was so full that I could not move.

Full but happy. Happy above all that after a very long time, everyone could finally spend this Easter Sunday together again.

Wunderbarer Ostersonntag mit Familie, Freunden und gegrilltem Lamm

Ein schönes Osterfest und ein traumhafter Sonntag gehen zu Ende. Das Lamm als Opfer selbst hat zwar eine alte Tradition im Osterfest, aber nur selten wird in unseren Regionen auch ein ganzes Lamm zu Ostern gegrillt.
Mein Schwager kam vor ein paar Jahrzehnten auf diese Idee und seither wurde auch dies in unserer Familie zur Tradition: Ein ganzes Lamm grillen, mit Freunden und Familie auf diese Weise Ostern zu feiern.

Nach zwei Jahren Zwangspause durch die Restriktionen war es heute endlich wieder soweit und alle waren super happy über diesen gelungenen Tag.

Das Lamm kam frisch geschlachtet vom Biobauernhof aus der Region. Am Vorabend wird es auf dem Grillspieß befestigt und mit viel Knoblauch, Oregano und Olivenöl eingebeizt. Am morgen um 8h wird das Feuer im Griller entfacht, denn das Lamm braucht sehr lange um gar und knusprig zu werden.

Die Hundenasen waren schon sehr aufgeregt und gefordert. Auch war die Bewachung des Grillplatzes wohl eine äußerst wichtige Aufgabe ;-) Da meine Nichte ihre Hunde auch mitbrachte hatten wir diesmal 4 Hunde hier, was ein wenig eine Herausforderung war, weil sich zwei von ihnen nicht leiden können.

Wenn das Lamm fertig gegrillt ist, wird es in Teilen klein geschnitten und kommt in einen Topf um nicht zu sehr auszukühlen.

Um 14h war es endlich soweit. Dazu gab es wie immer: selbst gemachtes Tsaziki, Griechischen Bauernsalat, Schafskäse, Oliven und ein köstliches, einfaches Fladenbrot, das meine Schwester extra dafür backt.

Es schmeckt vorzüglich, auch wenn ich das Lamm betreffend mit jedem Jahr mehr und mehr in einen ethischen Zwiespalt gerate, ob es denn wirklich sein muss.

Die nachfolgende Bild zeigt den Lamm Rest, wobei später natürlich sämtliches restliches Fleisch noch heruntergeschnitten und verwertet wird, da wird nichts davon weggeworfen.

Wer sich wundert, wo die Füße sind, die wurden abgesägt und tiefgekühlt. Werden irgendwann einmal gegrillt oder gebraten. Es wäre mit den Füßen zu groß für den Griller gewesen.

So ein Bild zu sehen mag den ein oder anderen schockieren, ich hoffe jedoch nicht und ihr könnt gut damit umgehen. Wir alle essen gerne viel zu viel Fleisch und solange es in Form eines fertigen Steak oder Würstchens auf den Tisch kommt ist es in Ordnung, aber als ganzes Tier gesehen wird es manchmal schwierig für uns, es zu essen.

Danach gab es noch süße Nachspeisen: Erdbeer Roullade und Apfelschnitten.

Und anschließend war ich so satt, dass ich mich nicht mehr rühren konnte.

Satt aber glücklich. Glücklich vor allem, dass nach sehr langer Zeit endlich wieder alle gemeinsam diesen Ostersonntag verbringen konnten.
