Coffee on Oranges to Lessen the Blow

I have spent the last few days in San Cristobel Del Las Casas, in the Chiapas region of Southern Mexico.

Chiapas is famous for being Mexicos Premium Coffee Region. And so I expected to be writing a post about all of the amazing coffees I have had during my visit here.

One thing that you will notice if you are ever in this area is.... its bloody cold!!

Due to the high altitude of the town its been a constant 13c during the day and around 8c in the evenings... which is tough when you are fully loaded with swim shorts and flip flops.

It was still the Dia Del Los Muertos Celebrations when we arrived and so the shops were all decorated to suit.

We stopped off in a tiny bar because it was dressed up amazingly.

Once inside we had the opportunity to try a drink called Pox (pronounced Posh)
It is almost solely consumed in the Chiapas region and is a ceremonial drink of the Mayans, made from corn, sugar cane and wheat.

This drink is really no joke... at 53% alcohol, it packs quite a punch.

And so to soften the blow.. much the same as eating lime after tequila.. the Pox is accompanied by slices of orange adorned with crushed Chiapas coffee beans.

The combination of drink, orange and coffee flavours is incredible.

And so, I chose not to write a post about the amazing coffee... because I still think a good Kenyan/Brazilian blend is hard to beat.
But I had to tell you about mixing coffee and oranges when taking shots... it's a game changer!!

I would have posted this earlier today but unfortunately the coffee and oranges don't do anything to stop you getting a mighty Pox Hangover.

Oh, dear! It must be dreadful to face such temperatures in summer gear. It's even worst when you're not acclimatized to it after having extended periods of glorious sunshine. So great coffee to get you through it is a consolation🤗

The celebration is so bright and colourful that they make even skeletons look cheerful.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about all the lovely coffee available there:)

I like the Dia Del Los Muertos decorations. So colorful.

Warm coffee always helps on cold days.
