So, don't be surprised if during my time in Pekalonga, my hometown, I often find coffee shops that are close to nature, whether near tea gardens, near rivers, near the sea, or even in the middle of the forest. Hahaha... geographically, the city where I was born is that close to nature.
This time, my friend and I stopped by RIVER LOLONG coffee shop.
River Coffee Lolong is actually not only a coffee shop, but also other outdoor activities such as outbound, rafting, tubing, jungle tracking and camping ground. River Lolong uses a semi-outdoor concept. In general, the seating for this coffee shop is outdoors, however, when it rains, there is a traditional section here, as well as bookshelves containing children-friendly educational books.
When I stopped by, it wasn't rush hour, so there weren't many visitors. Although this shop looks simple, do you know what amazed me? The coffee tasted very good and fresh. Let me tell you what I ordered here.
- River Signature Black Shake
At first glance, it's similar to the long black, but this signature menu from Rover Kopi has a coarser layer of crema. You know why, because in the brew process, this signature coffee by River is shaken with a shake bottle. So, can I still call this crema or just call it froth? Please comment below, I'm curious.
In terms of taste, Signature by River has a mild flavor, even without sugar, the taste of this coffee already leaves a very light sweetness at the end. The first flavor that the tongue can taste when sipping this coffee is a fresh, fruity taste. I can estimate that the coffee used is arabica.
For your information, Pekalongan also has locally produced robusta and arabica coffee. So, although it is not very famous because sales are only local, but the taste of local coffee in Pekalongan can also be really tasted.
- Aren Latte
As usual, my friend is a latte lover. So every time she drinks coffee with me, it's a given that her order will be a latte. River Kopi's Aren Latte has a good taste that is standard like aren lattes in most coffee shops. There is no distinctive flavor that is specifically authentic. That's what my friend said when I asked him about the flavor of his coffee.
- Snacks
Maybe you're familiar with the two snacks I ordered? They are tempe mendoan and cassava cheese.
If no one understands what tempe mendoan is, let me describe it a bit. So, tempe mendoan is a snack or sometimes a side dish made from fried tempeh with a mixture of wheat flour and tapioca. If fried tempeh is usually fried with a deep fry until dry, tempe mendoan is different, it is fried only to medium doneness. So there is still a wet and chewy texture with a savory taste.
As for cheese cassava, just like its name, it is made from boiled cassava which is then fried until crispy. The toppings are usually grated cheddar and sweetened condensed milk.
This cheese cassava can really balance the bitter taste of coffee. Enjoyed warm with a stunning view, who wouldn't like it? Hehehehe.
While we were in the middle of enjoying the menu at our table, it started raining heavily, so we moved to a place with a roof. It's very cozy here too, but I prefer a completely open space like the one right in front of the reservation.
The village has relatively high rainfall compared to the surrounding sub-districts. So, naturally, if it doesn't rain where I am, it rains heavily in here.
While waiting for the rain to stop, my friend and I chatted about plans for the next hike. Where else are we going to explore hills or mountains?
That's how we spent the afternoon with our respective cups of coffee. Before dark, even though the rain was still drizzling, we still decided to go home.
