From the House of Terror to the Coffee: An Unexpected Tour of the Barquisimeto Fair [En-Es]

Last year, I visited the fair in the city of Barquisimeto, at the Bicentenario fairgrounds. The idea was to clear my mind and enjoy each of the stands. Unexpectedly, the night became quite attractive due to the presence of coffee. However, I need to start from the beginning so you can understand this post and each of my experiences at the fair.

I remember that when I was a 10-year-old child, I had the chance to go to a park called Interpark. The park was often set up in Barquisimeto during the fair, as the city was the one that supported artists from all over Latin America. For example, the fame of Don Omar and Aventura was boosted by the Barquisimeto fair. These weren’t the best economic times for the country, but there was still a lot of money flowing.

At that time, Interpark had two haunted houses: one larger than the other, with age restrictions for entry. The two times I went to the park, I was only able to enter the haunted house once. I’m writing about this experience because the original idea for going to the fair was to enjoy the experience again, especially since they had advertised that they would set up a haunted house there. However, upon arrival, I was completely disappointed due to the long line to enter. I hate long lines to enter or buy something, so I definitely decided not to enjoy that part of the experience.

The new plan was to explore the entire place, and one of the spots I found that caught my attention was a stand for Café Flor Arauca. The place was packed with people. The stand offered a free sample of hot coffee.

What I liked about the stand was that it had two screens displaying the coffee they were promoting, which caught people's attention. Also, they chose a key location: the center of the fair, where the largest number of people gathered.

The line to receive a coffee sample was also quite long, but shorter compared to the one for the haunted house. Upon entering the stand, they had placed furniture and tables so that people could enjoy a pleasant experience.

As this was a fair, there were sugar packets scattered all over the table. I didn’t like that; it says a lot about the visitors. However, the baristas always had a friendly smile while serving people, which is something really important to me. A very nice detail was that the tables also had the brand's name.

As I ventured a bit further into the stand, there were more people, all enjoying the experience and chatting. That’s what the drink I love so much can do.

Inside the stand, there was also a huge coffee mug with the brand's name. I took that moment to snap many pictures. Unfortunately, I couldn’t try the coffee because the tastings had run out, but I was able to take photos of the bar, the machines, and the coffee presentation.

What I liked about this stand was that they had an antique coffee maker. In fact, I own one of these at home, as it's always good to prepare coffee the traditional way in the kitchen. The coffee maker was also very large and eye-catching.

I continued exploring the fair and came across another stand selling various products. The number of people at the fair that day was overwhelming. It was difficult to walk around, but it was nice to discover that other stands had also dedicated themselves to coffee.

Another stand I was able to visit briefly was Café La Cima. They were also offering tastings, but there were many people around. Something I liked was that they had a metal coffee cup at the stand, one of those traditional cups we see at our grandmothers’ houses. On top of the cup, there were roasted coffee beans, a beautiful sight.

On the side of the stand, there were three cylinders filled with coffee beans going through the process from green to roasted and ground. It created a perfect harmony in the coffee-making process from its most traditional form.

Living the experience of walking through the Barquisimeto fair was wonderful. Although I initially went to entertain myself with the haunted house, I ended up enjoying and seeing something that I love and appreciate: coffee in its genuine forms. I also discovered brands in the market that have emerged in a competitive environment in Venezuela.

Hey @neruel you are welcome.
Thanks for using @worldmappin 😘

I have always said it, the long lines marked sad moments in our lives. I, like you and others, detest them. At least the experience with the fair changed with the exquisite coffee.

I never liked long lines hahahaha. I think it's something not nice. The experience was great. I liked being able to tour the fair.

Ah I hate haunted houses! While I love a good horror film or story, something about haunted houses just sets me off. However, going for a coffee in such a place would definitely be on my itinerary as well :D

I love horror houses even though I'm not one to watch horror movies. For some reason they make me panic more hahahaha. Although I couldn't get into the horror house I enjoyed the coffee stands. Something I definitely loved.

I like that they have merchandise with their logo. It's something I'd be keen to buy if I had an amazing time.
I hope someday I'll get the chance to visit a coffee fair at a great location.

Thanks for sharing this with us, @neruel and all the best for 2025!
Coffee is the most delightful drink to have at seminars or whenever friends get together since it helps to activate the brain.
Thanks for stopping by.

Jolly good time.jpg

It is a delight. There is a new brand presence in the country. I liked that each element will reflect the brand identity. It's a very striking aspect.

Last year here they did a fair dedicated to showcase coffee from all over Venezuela. Both commercial and specialty coffees. I was not able to go to that one, but in this one I was surprised to see some brands. Captivated.

Thanks to you and all the community. I will always be grateful for writing about coffee here. ☕️

Coffee is the best thing to be able to share and live experiences. I agree with the fact that it is part of our personal relationships. For me it is a means of telling stories.

Happy New Year 2025.

I would be happy visiting a place like that and of course I would go crazy taking photos hahaha too bad you missed the coffee tasting, but you still enjoyed seeing all that wonder, it was worth it, you didn't have to go into the house of terror but this tour, thanks for sharing your lovely experience, I hope one day to visit Barquisimeto❤️

It will always be remarkable to be able to visit a place like this. In the city of Barquisimeto it is always normal to have fairs of this type. I am very pleased that you are here. It's a pity, but the line was very long and I don't like to do that kind of thing. It was worth it because I was able to connect with what I like.

Coffee and a good horror experience, I think you hit the jackpot! I love these kinds of exhibits, although in this part of the country they hardly ever do them. “Flor de Arauca" is a very popular brand, in fact, the coffee powder is quite good. I really liked the cylinders full of coffee; I think I need several of those at home, XD.
