Finally! I got my Sage grinder and now the coffee is fresher than ever. Dabov Specialty Coffee, as usual.

Well, as you saw the topic, I finally got my electric grinder. The choice was a little bit difficult, because the grinder had to fit two types of coffee - espresso and V60 filter. And of course, I didn’t want to throw huge amounts of money into it, so I guess this was the only choice around - the Sage(Breville) Dose Control Pro.

Usually the grinders that are designed for espresso can’t go very coarse - to about V60 size, and vice versa. This grinder was designed to fit the home coffee brewing and so it has a wide variety of grind sizes. Of course, the espresso sizes vary with a very big steps and fine tuning is impossible, but for a home setup with a pressurized portafilter it should grind relatively well. Of course, only some coffee geeks will notice the difference, and I’m still not that “professional” either. I will be more than happy with this grinder!

I have to tell you, also, that lately I find myself with a lot of different coffee varieties and a lot of quantity.

Some people will tell that this is too much, but when coffee is whole beans, it will last a lot longer than when it’s pre-ground. The difference can be quite shocking . Whole bean coffe can stay fresh for a couple of months, without degrading that much in flavor, while ground coffee has less than week with its beast aroma.

Do you see the packages with 1 to 5 numbers on them? I’m actually participating in a game by Dabov, but I will get more specific in my future posts, because it’s quite long. Now let’s focus on the grinder and today’s coffee, which is the quite known from my posts Kenya Nyeri Gatugi AB

Now, the pleasure of weighing whole beans is great! I have dreamed for this exact moment for more than a year, and now it’s getting real. I guess I need a more specific scale because this cannot do differences of less than 1 gram. I surely need a 0.1g precision to weight my beans properly and a new scale will be lot enjoyed as well! 😁

I will still have to experiment with the grind size, because the Drip range is quite big and I really don’t know where to start. My decision was to go in the middle of the Drip setting and then tune better.

Last week’s Geisha

From the first eye inspection, it’s a little bit coarser than the Dabov’s V60 grind size, but really the filtering time will tell if it’s good or not. Usually the V60 requires brewing time between 2,5
and 3,5 minutes. So let’s the brewing begin!

The roast of the Kenya Nyeri Gatugi is darker than the typical Dabov coffee. You can easily observe this, but it still remains one of my favorite coffees that are available in the Dabov Specilty Coffee shop. I have to mention, that I have forgotten the fresh ground coffee aroma and it surely is beautiful. No ground coffee can smell so greater than the recently ground coffee.

The coffee was brewed in about 2:20, so this means it was for sure under extracted, but it’s taste wasn’t bad at all. Actually, it was excellent. My pre-ground coffees typically taste great two or three times, when I brew them still fresh and then tend to taste like different coffees. I guess that this disadvantage is already eliminated with my grinder.

Next time, I think that I will go two steps finer, more towards the first part of the Drip range. I think that I will need 2 or 3 more grinds until I find the perfect V60 grind setting on this grinder, and after that, I enjoy the perfect flavor infinitely 😂

I think I had to make this step and buy a grinder a lot time ago. I had a manual grinder and it was good, but not perfect. It really didn’t get me very even grinds and I found myself not using it that much. This Sage grinder will definitely serve me a lot of time and I really won’t buy pre-ground coffee again.

Have a nice weekend, Cinnamon Coffee Friends, and hope you will do great today. Enjoy your coffee with the people you love!
Bye!

Hello @mdosev

WOW.jpg

That's a proper industrial kind of machine.
It makes sense though that you'd invest in such, since you always treat yourself to exquisite coffees.
That's definitely the way to go, so you can have fresh beans just when you need them:)))
AWESOME!

Hey there, @millycf1976

In home setup this may look as an industrial grinder, but really with this 140$ grinder the people will most likely mock at me if I try to make some proper espresso shots in a cafe. 😁

This purchase definitely seems late now, but it’s really time to enjoy the coffee on the next level. Fresh grinding gives it a special flavor that is not there in pre-ground beans. I even cannot describe this taste, but it adds a touch of exquisiteness.

Have a nice day and thanks for stopping by!

That looks like an awesome grinder. I really need to get one myself and start buying full coffee beans. Everyone always says how much fresher and it is.

The investment is worth every penny! Fresh grinding is the key to stepping up your coffee joy! Especially if you can find this kind of not so pricey grinders. Of course, there are some grinders around at the 15-20$ price tag, but as well there are these 1000$+ grinders. I think the 100-200$ price point is a good place to start.

Okay I'll keep that in mind. Thanks. 👍
