Hey, coffee friends in the Hive!
Are you having a good week? I hope you are 😊
When at a café, do you have a preference for the shape of the tables?
I've been thinking a bout #tcsp 68 and after much thought, I'm choosing round tables.
My last visit to La Panetteria on Mother's Day (last month this year)
Despite this orange which seems to me too bright to look at directly, the roundness of this table surely called me to choose it. A round table seems more inviting to me; I guess it has something to do with the flow of the line of its edge--it has flow 😉--. Round shapes are friendlier than their rigid square sisters--who can't rap 🤣
OLD HABITS
I've never bought a round table for myself; they're all square at home, except for one that was already there when we moved in. I never thought I really minded the absence of corners, and maybe that has always influenced my choice. I like to divide spaces and sort things, and that's best done in square spaces. Round tables don't offer me this possibility, but I think they're more elegant because their lines flow into the space; they're also more comfortable because there's more legroom. So whenever I'm in a coffee shop, I choose round tables instead of square ones.
Last time I went out for coffee in my town,
I went actually for arepas and coffee. My husband and I went to El fogón de la arepa, an old and popular arepera, an establishment where people go to eat arepas usually for breakfast or lunch.
All tables are square, both in the arepera area and in the lunch area.
The last time I had visited this place, I used to eat here every weekend at about 2 o'clock in the morning, when we got hungry at work. We had a pub down the street; by that time, in the late 90's, the concept was all the rage in the city, this city of mine, where there was a very lively nightlife--not anymore, though.
Back then, we came for arepas and coffee... at 2 a.m.; that's right. It's been more than 20 years since I had been here to eat, although I did come here for some coffee a couple of times in December 2001, as my mother's funeral was taking place across the street. I think that set the mood; now that I think about it, maybe that had something to do with the fact that I never felt like coming back here.
However, I got a nice feeling this time, and I'm certainly coming back; they make the only latte with cow’s milk that I tolerate and really enjoy--two decades later and they make the same coffee; that's an achievement in this country!--It's one of the best in town. As for their arepas, they can't be beat: they use fresh corn for the dough and their fillings are pure homemade flavor.
Here, El Fogón de la arepa seen from the street:
I entered the place through the rectangular door...
...and walked down the rectangular hallway to the inside of the restaurant...
...a juxtaposition of square areas, with square tables.
Seeing the curved lines of the backs of the chairs was a nice contrast and a relief to the eye.
The feeling of being surrounded by so many square things is not pleasant really, unless there is contrast.
For example, look at the space at La Trinacria in Lechería, Anzoátegui state, where I was five weeks ago. The contrast of the round shapes of the tables goes very well with the straight lines of the counters and the place in general.
They also have round tables at La Bodeguilla, another place I like to visit in the neighboring state; I like to come here for coffee and breakfast--though I seldom do it. Notice the nice contrast between the roundness of the table and the hexagonal backs and wickerwork of the chairs.
All in all, I prefer round tables. They give a feeling of fluidity, make the environment more elegant, invite you to sit down, have more legroom, and everyone is equidistant from the center, which is very useful for those who use the sugar bowl 😆 Besides, you can almost always fit a couple more chairs at a round table, ideal for those who go with the more the merrier #lifestyle.
Thank you so much for dropping by, awesome @cinnccf team ☕️❤️ Have a brewtiful Wednesday 😁
It is an impressive display of tables and coffee shops.
You have done your homework thoroughly. There is much to be learned from that social geometry of cafeterias.Round tables have the advantage of encouraging closeness.
Although I find it is also important that there is warmth in the materials, if not in the table itself, then in what surrounds it.
A big hug!
😁
Hey you, sis!
Geometry works wonders. Remember The Magician's table in Tarot cards?
I totally agree. I prefer natural materials; it has to do a lot with the feeling...
@adncabrera
Sure, I remember.
And it's true, it also connects us to our most primordial imaginary.
The circle, the spiral connect to the cycle of life and change in nature; the square invites the proportions of logic. Geometry is precious, however you look at it.
We should have a coffee to talk about this! Hahahahaha!!!!
It's a great collection of stickers... hahaha...
I did not make a post but gave the prompt a thought too.
Generally (due to some psychology mechanics) I prefer "well-grounded", anchored shapes i.e. rectangles. Thus in design I'd quickly without hesitation choose this direction, rather then ellipse or a circle. But furniture is a another deal. Well, a bit. In cafe I happily prefer any table.... rectangled one might be a better option but I will not insist. It truly depends on the table - if only I 'd be opted for a round table like this....
I will jump on it without any hesitation and not look sideways for any other option!
...and here is a !PIZZA for you. meoww!
I've never bought a round table for myself in my entire life; my mother, however, had oval and round tables in the house. This prompt got me thinking. As for the table in your beatiful photo, I wouldn't hesitate to choose it for any occasion; it has character--and casters! It's like someone traveled back in time from the future to a medieval time and assembled the casters. Apparently, you were there with your camera 😏
And yes, there are other aspects to consider when choosing a table other than the shape, though shapes are definitely powerful.
Thank you so much for dropping, for the comment, the beautiful photo, and the pizza 😁
I will show you one foto of our kitchen table (it is rounded) but I need to find that very special capture. When I stumble upon it in the archive I will not forget to share! 😉
Looking forward to seeing that photo!
Round tables, like King Arthur's knights, where everyone was the same and no one stood out from the others... I think I like them better too, I hadn't thought about that question.
I would like one day to be able to try the arepas they make in Venezuela, I have never tried an arepa, well not like yours. I have tried some with wheat flour, and without filling, well I'm not sure they were really arepas hehe.
Cheers!
King Arthur and his knights of the round table is probably the first thing that comes toy mind whenever I hear the expression "round table." There every knight has exactly the same chance to reach the sugar bowl to sweeten his medieval mocaccino 🤭🤣
We also have arepas made of wheat flour; they are a traditional side in the west of Venezuela: 'arepitas andinas'. They are semi sweet and similar to 'domplinas' in texture and taste. I will tag you when I post those recipes, my friend. Both arepitas andinas and domplinas are good with coffee ☕
Thank you so much for dropping by! Have a nice evening ❤️
😂 How funny, medieval knights pouring each other coffee.
Thanks for keeping me in mind when you make your recipes.
That place should be called "the square" haha... At least the chairs have a curved shape to cut off the rectangular view. The other two places are better.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Happy day☕
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I do like the aesthetics of the other places, but their good coffee and delicious arepas here at El Fogón de la Arepa make all the squares worth a visit, my friend 😺
Thank you so much for dropping by! ☕
I agree that round tables are more inviting than square ones, and they are better for intimacy for coffee dates:)
Oh yes, you can get closer and closer stealth mode 😜
Now I'm thinking I must sell my square tables and buy a round one.
Thank you so much for dropping by, dear Goddess!
There's something really charming about round tables in gardens too:)
I know, right?! I have to replace the top of our only round table, which is in the backyard.
Hehe. Cats always find the best places 🤗
I would love to go and try the cow's milk coffee. It must be very delicious! As for the place, I also think it's cool, the lighting, looks impeccable, and it seems like it has three environments, one natural in wood, another urban and chic, and another as if it were a waiting room haha!
The only thing I didn't like was seeing the motorcycle inside the business when there is a motorcycle parked outside... otherwise, everything was cool.👍😉
When you come to Cumana, be sure to eat an arepa here too, along with your latte!
I'm guessing here, but the motorcycle must belong to one of the restaurant employees. People do their best to avoid having their stuff stolen, but it does look pretty ugly there, hehe.
I totally agrtee on that one about the waiting room 🤣
That's what I thought, either it's from one of the owners or someone who works there, they should set a good example, not a bad one haha!
I imagine it is the room to wait for the delicious arepas and then you go up a level to another room.☕😅
I don't mind at all waiting for some good arepas if I get coffee in the meantime, hehe.
The service is still the fastest, as it was 20, 30, 40 years ago. The place filled up and emptied out a couple of times during our short stay. truth be told, I didn't see whole families coming to eat here as before; customers came either alone or in couples. It's clear that many parents can no longer afford to take the whole family out for breakfast on a Sunday. We didn't stay more than half an hour and that's because I took my time taking pictures 😁
Yes, I was surprised that you went in your youth at dawn and now you go in the company of your husband, it is very worthwhile that you are still standing, I hope and send blessings and I hope they make a really good marketing plan to renew themselves and attract customers like before.
Different time, different husband 😉
Ah well that's a topic to talk about over a good coffee.☕😏😉
Very nice decoration indeed. The place looks very nice, it would be interesting to have a good coffee there, if I ever visit that state I will try to visit you, no doubt. The round tables are quite distinctive. Nowadays there are many designs, but this is the traditional one and indeed it fits more people. Thanks for sharing your content with us, greetings!
Hey, @brujita18 ☕
I also think round tables are distinctive; their shape is more eye catching than the regular square one. I've seen lots of interesting designs, but I've only bought square tables for myself 🤭
Thank you so much for dropping by and for your nice words, have a great weekend ahead ❤️
It's a theme. I usually sit at square tables, but if there are round ones I choose them. The thing is that most cafeterias have square tables for a better distribution of space.
Hey, @neruel! Thanks a lotr for droppin by ☕️ Yes, it's certainly a theme for an extended discussion, though we might take it for granted. You can always fit more square tables than round tables in a given space, although it seems a fact that more people fit more comfortably if the table is round 😏
