Hello everyone and all members of Cinnamon Cup Coffee Community, how are you today? May we all always be healthy and happy, because that is what makes our lives better. First of all, I want to say to everyone who is always present and reads the writings that I make on this blog. I always get support and motivation that allows me to always be able to contribute to this community.

This time, I want to share my story when I visited the legendary coffee shop in Rantau Prapat City. For your information, I live in Medan City, North Sumatra Province – Indonesia and my father was born in Rantau Prapat City, you could say that city is our family's hometown. I also have many families in Rantau Prapat City and I consider this city my second home. Last week, I came for a family event and I took my time to this coffee shop for breakfast. The coffee shop is called Kedai Kopi Akur Bienam.

Akur Bienam Coffee Shop is located on Jalan Lintas Sumatra, Rantau Prapat – Labuhan Batu no 24/26 B, North Sumatra. We can easily find this coffee shop, because it is located on the edge of the protocol road. I visited this coffee shop in the morning, because this coffee shop is open from 6 am to 11 pm.

This coffee shop has existed long before Indonesia became independent. From the shop board, we can see that the Akur Bienam Coffee Shop has been around since 1896 and remains consistent with its taste and quality. Although Rantau Prapat City is a small town, this city has existed for a long time, because it supports and becomes the administrative city for plantation companies around this city.

In Indonesia, traditional coffee shops (before Indonesia's independence) were usually run by Chinese people and each place had the same characteristics. This coffee shop has a simple and classic decor. One shophouse with three floors became the place for this coffee shop, but due to the Covid-19 protocol the number of seats was reduced and there were additional seats in front of the coffee shop.

This traditional coffee shop only sells a few menus that have been around for a long time, such as filter coffee, milk coffee, tea, milk tea and for toast with super delicious srikaya jam. I have often drank coffee from this coffee shop, this time for some reason I wanted to drink a glass of cold pulled tea (Tea Tarik).

A Glass of Cold Pulled Tea (Teh Tarik)

Actually, it's quite odd to have a cold drink at breakfast. However, Rantau Prapat City is a city that has very hot weather. The city is surrounded by oil palm plantations, and oil palm is a plantation crop that absorbs water very well and makes the weather hotter. So, it's not surprising that many customers like me drink cold tea or coffee this morning.

Recently, when I go to a traditional coffee shop. I always try to order the tea menu, whether it's cold tea, milk tea or teh Tarik, especially the Chinese-style coffee shop (kopitiam). For me, tea in traditional coffee shops always uses tea powder that is not sold in the market or shop.

Cold Pulled Tea as the name implies is a mixture of sweet and savory condensed milk with black tea. How to brew it by pulling transferred from one glass to another. The transfer of this milk tea produces a froth and foam that makes it unique. This drink has a sweet taste produced from sweetened condensed milk, and tea that has a slightly sour chelate taste makes the combination of these two ingredients very delicious to drink.

Roti Bakar with Srikaya Jam is the hallmark of this coffee shop and is a must when visiting this coffee shop. The Roti Bakar here is burnt using charcoal and produces toast that is slightly burnt so that you can smell the aroma. This toast is even more delicious with srikaya jam which is very sweet and delicious.

I always finish a portion of this srikaya toast when visiting this coffee shop. It feels even more delicious with a glass of cold tea that is drunk slowly. Visitors can also buy jam to take home or as a food souvenir. The srikaya jam from this coffee shop can last for one month.

Judging from the age of this coffee shop which is more than 100 years old, the taste of delicious food and drinks should already have branches in every province in Indonesia or choose a larger place of business. However, until now, Kedai Kopi Akur Bienam still lives in a small shop house with limited parking space. May this coffee shop always maintain its originality and stick with its simplicity

Hello @isdarmady, It's nice to see a typical, old traditional outlet like this one. The mere fact that they still toast the bread using that method, shows how much they have remained old-schooled.
The sandwich looks delicious enough though, and I'm sure it went down well with that coffee.
Have a nice weekend:)

hello @millycf1976 thank you for stopping by,
Last weekend, I went on vacation and camping with my family in a location where there was no cellular signal so I couldn't check anything on my blog.

this coffee shop is classic and old. When I visit this city, I always come for a cup of coffee and toast.
