I'll not go as far as saying my working week revolves around coffee however will say that, quite probably, the safety of my colleagues does.
You see, the at work G-dog without coffee is rather unpredictable, much like a junkyard dog let off the chain, an earthquake or volcano...Just about anything is possible. It's funny though, people think I drink coffee at work for my own benefit, but little do they know, I drink it for their safety and wellbeing. I know, I'm caring and generous.
It's well-documented that the coffee at my office is a sub-standard. I call it instant disappointment because on taking a sip of that heinous granulated stuff, [I sometimes call devil crumbs], one is instantly disappointed; instant coffee is the juice of the devil after all. It is known.
The issue is, I don't have the time in the morning to stop and get a decent coffee from any number of cafés on the way to work...and before anyone points out the obvious solution to that problem, no I'm not going to leave home earlier to get to one of those cafes - I like my sleep too much. If you think I'm grumpy without coffee, you should see me without sleep! There is an alternative to having to drink instant disappointment though and one that doesn't require much effort at all. No, it's not a McDonalds drive through, that shit is as bad as instant disappointment.
There's a young lady who owns a coffee van which she sets up along the roadside in a parking bay early each day. From here she provides proper coffee to those legit people who spurn devil juice and wish to avoid instant disappointment by drinking instant disappointment. It's a nifty set up and whilst I've had better coffee, I've also had far worse - hers is safely in the middle - neither devilish or heavenly, just drinkable, and so much better than the instant disappointment I'm sometimes fated to drink at work.
I don't always stop there because sometimes there's six or seven vehicles lined up and I'm not inclined to wait; it's on those days my work colleagues are in mortal danger as I need to resort to the barely-passable instant disappointment coffee at work. But, on the days when destiny plays its hand and there's only a couple of cars in the line my work colleagues can rejoice because I get to drink proper coffee and it's like nectar of the gods. Well, coffee-girl nectar anyway. (Ok, that probably sounds wrong; It sounded way better in my head. I'm not drinking her nectar, but the coffee she makes is like nectar...Ah fuck it, you know what I meant. Or not.)
I've never said much to her as she's always so busy making coffee but she's always smiling, and we swap a few pleasantries through the open car window. She hands the coffee over, I tap my card, and I'm on my way. It's as simple as that. Colleagues lives are saved, for a day at least.
I admire her getting out there and making something happen. Buying a van and setting it up as a mobile coffee-maker isn't a cheap exercise and I think it's great to see someone so young taking the risk and trying to make something happen for herself.
On one occasion I asked if she takes the van elsewhere and she told me how she attends various workplaces over the course of the day on a regular run plus works over the weekend at sporting and community events, attends real estate auctions, local parks and venues and pretty-much anywhere people gather, and she can (legally) set up. It's a seven day a week job and she only has a day off when her friend takes over the van twice a month for her. I respect that effort.
I've been making more of an effort to drop in for a morning coffee lately. Not only does it help preserve the general safety and wellbeing of my colleagues through me having proper coffee in the morning, but it helps a young person, who works hard to provide for herself and young son, to maintain a sustainable business. No matter how good or bad the weather, that young lady turns up, smiles and delivers the nectar of the gods to people who stop in and little does she know how grateful my work colleagues are that I pull in now and then for some proper coffee. Their lives depend on it.
Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default - Tomorrow isn't promised so be humble and kind

Hello Galen,
I think "devil's crumbs" is the perfect description for such coffee.
I totally get you about lack of sleep; I cope way better now than before. I'm basically borderline uncivilized without sleep, and without sleep, I tend to stay off my coffee, which could be a double-danger hazard for anyone in my peripheral space. They say people mellow with age...that has to be the case for me.
I do find coffee-carts like those most convenient, and the coffee's are most time topnotch.
It's always great to know that you get to have your coffee treats and that the world is a safer place.
Thanks for stopping by, have a lovely weekend:)
I reckon, you with no sleep and no coffee is a you most wouldn't want to tangle with! 😁
I'm actually ok if I don't have coffee to be honest, it's the lack of sleep that makes me a little
grumpyless socially-adept.I hope y'all are doing well. I assume, by now, you're coffee'd, breakfasted and maybe even underway on the canal. I hope you have a good weekend.
Not coffee'd yet, but it's brewing and then we'll head off soon, as we have quite a bit to do today.
Have a lovely weekend too:)
9am and no coffee? My work colleagues would be running for their lives of that happened to me! 😁
🤣 I guess you need a DO NOT DISTURB sign on your forehead pre coffee.
Now I'm fully caffeinated and feeling good😁
Ready to operate 3000kg of locks!
I still think you on no sleep or coffee in a dark alley might be pretty scary 🤣
Nobody can mellow out that much 😂
Haha! You're probably right. I'm just trying to convince myself that I have mellowed 🤣
🤣 if that works, all good - just get your rest too 🤯

Thank you, and have a lovely Sunday :)
Devil crumbs haha good phrase.
That actually looks like a decent set up for being in the back of someones van lol. Professional really.
Coffee girl nectar haha
Those coffee van set ups are pretty legit and a lot of work goes into them. It's Basically a mobile deep cycle battery with a massive inverter and the coffee machine and stainless steel cabinetry, benches and the coffee machine sit on top. I've seen some with a solar array on the roof to charge when stationary but most operate off the battery system that charges as they move.
I'm glad someone caught my coffee-girl nectar comment. Lol.
Yeah that sounds like a pretty impressive set up. The solar panel idea is cool. I wouldn't be surprised if that becomes more common in the future.
I think so... A little set up and running cost but no expensive leasing of premises to worry about.
I read this title and immediately thought "Hey ! It's after 9 am and I should go put on some coffee ! When I got up earlier, I came nearly straight to my computer and a little time slipped by without me noticing. So.. .I went to the kitchen to put some coffee on, filled up my lidded water cup with the straw, grabbed some maple yogurt and came back here to reply whilst my coffee is magically making itself in the coffee maker.
I'm having amaretto coffee this morning.... I mean, I will be in a few minutes. 😊
Before covid and working at home, there was a coffee truck that would come to where I worked 2 days a week. There was a coffee machine in our cafeteria that I never tried, but in every break room on every floor, there were coffee makers. There was free coffee all the time. If you used the last of a pot, you filled the pot back up, put in some fresh grounds and turned it on again so there would be some for the next folks that came by. It wasn't magnificent, but very drinkable. I mostly just drank it from there since it was free and not bad. Occasionally, I would make a good pot at home and put it in a small thermos with a flip lid, that would keep it nice and hot till lunch, if it accidentally lasted that long.
It's always nice when you can support someone working hard to make their own way.
A couple stand out points of your initial paragraph:
I like that you had good coffee at the office. It's something I lack. They have a Nespresso pod coffee thing which I enjoy but it's in the customer waiting area and I don't like to use it. So, instant disappointment, it is mostly. I'm probably being a little misleading in my posts on this topic to be honest as the opportunity to exit the office at any time I choose exists...But I'm going to stick with the instant disappointment theme for the sake of my posts. Poetic license and all. 😀
Your last line...I reward effort, usually rather generously, and so I support this young lady. I don't really know her all that well, but her effort, dedication, ownership and responsibility makes her worthy of my support. It's a mutually agreeable scenario.
I hope you're having a good weekend. I'll be up on the roof of my garage in a bit, assessing a job, and then the dreaded IKEA store is on the cards. I believe the modern term is KMN. (Kill me now.) 😜
Maple Yogurt ! I know !
I don't keep all the fancy stuff here all the time, but I had a fresh grocery delivery yesterday, so all the good stuff is here. MAPLE !...Cream top too.... and Non GMO. What more can you ask for ?? There is also Cherry Vanilla yogurt waiting in the frig too, that actually has a little bit of real cherries in it...... OH YUM !
Poetic license.... It seems I can't always tell when that applies in your writing ! ....so I respond as if you are telling the un-embelished truth 😇 ! It makes me laugh when you fess up after my responses.
I enjoy being brutally honest and applying poetic license in equal measure...It keeps it interesting for me and people's responses to what they think it not real, or what is, often amuses me. I mean, me saying about the coffee thing being poetic license...Maybe it really is and just maybe that comment itself is poetic license. Lol. Now it's getting confusing!
I want me some maple yogurt! That's the truth, no poetic license at all.
How little stuff made our days better, colorful and positive.
A little smile goes a long way.
Totally admiring that coffee van and her positive energy with her genius ideas. Sounds like your work colleagues would also appreciate her van :)
My colleagues hail her as their saviour as her coffee means they live to work another day...Well, on the days I stop in at least. 🤪
She's a good sort, always happy and the coffee is decent. ✅
So.. it's black with no sugar ?
Flat white with no sugar. Sometimes black no sugar. Depends on my mood.
oh how I loved this post and I don't read trending like ever or am on like ever BUT this post on the supa' bean , good stuff as I drink my coffee now <3
Hey there, thanks for your great comment. I really appreciate it when someone reads my posts, but appreciate it more when those who do actually comment! 😀
yeah no doubt, I like to read and tend to skip over a ton of stuff and just gel with what I gel with, see if I can join the Coffee tribe if I remember because am having too many tabs open as usual but am about to have a Mason Jar filled with some Sumatran rocket fuel, never would touch that coffee that Civets? eat then poop out, no way because of so many reasons but I digress and go back to the grind
The grind is good. ✅
A couple years ago I had given some serious thought to purchasing a coffee tricycle and stocking it full of coffee, hot chocolates, teas, iced teas and the such. The impetus for this was the Grade 8 school market; the Grade 8 class at school has an annual market that lasts about 3 hours in length. The last time I was there it was long, it was cold, and I wanted coffee. There was none to be found, and I thought that anyone who brought a portable coffee market would make a killing.
Unfortunately the city, county, and state make a point of regulating small business (or, in my case, a wannabe-tiny-business) into non existence. The city charges $150 per day for a portable food vendor to set up shop, in addition to business licenses, health licenses, etc etc.
Alas. I would have loved doing that on the weekends, and I happen to have children who
would have lovedcould do thatforwith me.It's a great idea, but alas, red tape often squashes such good ideas. I often wonder what it much have been like 122 years ago when one could have an idea and generally make it happen...These days so many factors get in the way.
That line ☝️😜
:OD
You are a good man saving lives as you do by stopping in for a coffee there!
My own life at work is very similar, this made me chuckle :OD
I knew you'd be a life saver at work, Titans do titanic shit...I bet they quake in fear on those days when only instant disappointment coffee is available. Long live proper coffee and life saving Titans.
And the nectar comment I made...I was going to escalate it but decided the blockchain couldn't handle it. 😁
Hell hath no fury like a man driven to drinking the devil crumbs!
I have seen real fear on the eyes of my work compadres when I turn up without a coffee in hand!!
And lol, yeah, the blockchain is weak!
Devil crumbs are bad. Proper coffee good. Weak blockchain bad. CG nectar good.
Lol this is hilariously written as usual, but I admire her dedication and fortitude, it's admirable and I have a lot of respect for her, I am sure that she will do well with her mobile coffee van as she clearly is putting in the hard work and effort and wel - she's providing coffee which is pretty darn awesome of her!
Also super rad of you that you have chosen to rather support her (a small local business) than the bigger congloms. Local is lekker as they say here!
Death to the "devil crumbs" I say 😄
Devil crumbs must die. Long live proper coffee and lekker locals!
I admire how the woman is so hardworking. 7 days a week and barely twice a month for a day off is no joke. Though yes, we all need to work hard for something we want to happen.
Ah, you mean every sip of your coffee is like helping you to calm down whenever you'd be disappointed. That's a good way to control your temper.
Well, in truth I don't have much of a temper. I was just trying to make my post a little interesting. Don't take it too literally. 😉
THIS. This deserves a hi5 hahaha. I'm somewhat the same when it comes to sleep or coffee. People around me are surely safer at a distance on such days haha. 🥃
My library is experimenting again with offering coffee to the public as COVID panic diminishes. We have been supplied with some above-average coffee, too, although I have a can of basic Folger's as backup. This all means it's now part of my job to start a fresh pot of brown jitter fluid and then taste test a mug. Winter cold still sucks, but I have a warm beverage.
It's nice of them to offer a hot beverage and I'd say they would be pretty happy with it. A little generosity goes a long way. Also, taste tests each morning are a good way to start the day. 😁
😂 if only she could handle 2 lines at once! Then you would never be a danger to society 🤣
Sounds like me for the last couple of weeks - I haven't even had time to write, and barely reply and curate 😢
Ah yes, I blame her completely for the threat I pose to my work colleagues due to lack of proper coffee. 😀
Best to advise her on how to accommodate more customers 😂 Maybe she just needs a clone...
A clone would work. I need one too, I'd send mine to work whilst I go elsewhere and live life!
That didn't work out so well in the movie 🤣

That's true, but I'd still give it a go I reckon. Living on the edge has always been my style.
Is worth a try! But don't you feel bad for the other you?
I am the same way. Need my sleep, otherwise I can't function properly.
I love how your prospective has changes toward getting up earlier to not only get your coffee, but really to help someone else succeed, like this young hard working woman and at the same time you are helping youself and your co-workers. Its crazy how we will change, not so much for ourselves, but in order to help others. Love it.
Sleeping is one of my favourite activities! And yep, you have to respect someone that takes it upon themselves to work hard, get out of their comfort zone and work towards something. ✅
Anything with coffee in the title gets my upvote!
Haha, it is the fluid that lubricates life itself.
I appreciate the vote and comment.
Grazie mille.
I'm sure @scubahead would second that.
Coffee and cheesecake is all it takes to get Scoobs interested.

Thanks for the pizza tip @wrestlingdesires and @pizzabot. You are so kind 😀
Well you're not going to like me very much then, instant is most of what I drink XD
I remember the abject disgust one of my friends threw at me when he asked me how I had my coffee (proper coffee) and I said I didn't know as I usually drink mocha at coffee shops, and my instant coffees are a mug of milk heated in the microwave with a teaspoonful of instant coffee thrown in after. He made a snap decision on what to give me and he's now my favourite coffee maker.
Are you allowed to have food vans visiting your workplace? Is the coffee van allowed to move from that spot? Could you ask the coffee van to stop by after she's finished at the spot you usually find her at and then you'll get easy access to more good coffee again and so will everyone else?
Lol, well I understand how that guy felt, your friend. At least he treated you to a coffee and got it right. Who doesn't like a happy ending?
We could have a coffee van turn up for sure and I'm not exactly sure why it's not a thing. I might have to make an executive decision.
I am very inspired, on the other hand we drink coffee, there are other people we can help. A coffee seller who has to survive running business
Indeed.
I so agree with you on the instant disappointment haha but hey, sometimes we just don't have a choice 🤷♀️
Good for you though. You have coffee-girl nectar nearby to get you through the day ✌️
That's true, when there is no choice I guess average to bad coffee is better than none.
beautiful post
Thanks.
