Coffee in 'The Lyme Bay' in Lyme Regis

in Cinnamon Cup Coffeelast year (edited)

While holidaying in the area, we popped over to Lyme Regis. I've never been before. I only knew it as the setting for the film 'The French Lieutenant’s Woman' starring Meryl Streep in the 1980s. Anyway, after a little mooch around, we chose 'The Lyme Bay'. It didn't look much from the front, so I didn't really know what to expect. Had we made a mistake?

However, once inside, we found out it was dog friendly (make that VERY dog friendly). We could also sit under the covered terrace at the back with lovely views of the sea. Someone had done a spot of yarn bombing. If you look closely, there is a knitted sleeve on one of the metal bars. It is a type of street art.

I'd only had one drink earlier that morning, so I was dying for a strong cup of coffee. It didn't disappoint either. In fact, it seemed to glisten in the sun. I could practically see my reflection in it.

There was a nice, relaxed atmosphere and the staff were nice and friendly, especially to the pooch! Some meals were a little expensive but there were cheaper options. Our egg, spinach on toast, and a breakfast fry up were delicious and actually looked too good to eat.

The pooch was in his usual spot, under the table waiting for titbits. He wasn't disappointed either! Overall, it turned out to be a good choice and Lyme Regis turned out to be a lovely little seaside resort. It was a shame we couldn't have stopped longer.

Wow! That’s a nice coffee shop! I would have double of everything! 😂

I think I've put a little weight on ... 😁

What a nice place to have a coffee, it looks vintage style. Greetings!

Yes, it was old like me! 😁

That entrance is so Vintage and I am a sucker for vintage! I'd definitely be going in if this place popped up in front of me! However the dog friendliness might be a problem LOL, my wife is scared to death and she can go nowhere near dogs.

Oh, that's a shame. My friend's dog loves people. He'd be the ideal dog to help her get over her fear. Especially, if she had food!

Hey there!
Lovely photos, and what a fantastic history behind this place. It must have been such a pleasure, and I can see the appeal of the setting for that movie.
I'm salivating for the mushroom on toast with a lovely coffee now:)
Yeah, there were some good posts, heh-13.jpg

Thank you. I could have just stayed there and be a beach bum for the rest of my life. 😁

My mother in law and her boyfriend are down there at the moment. They got sick in Paris so are caravanning down there so they don't infect people.

That's a good idea. You can definitely keep away from people if you're caravanning. Shame about Paris though.
