The Birdcage Café is a popular place renowned for good food and great coffee. Fortunately for us, we stumbled upon a table that had been reserved but not for another hour. While waiting for our breakfast, which was a vegetarian fry up and eggs benedict, we decided to order our coffees, a decaffeinated latte, and a black americano.
My americano had a particularly strong flavour that can only be described as nectar! Just the way I like it. Sometimes strong coffee can taste a bit bitter, but this was quite mellow. I didn't even have to put any sugar in it.
As we sat and enjoyed our coffee, someone was turned away as there wasn't any room, which proves what a popular place it is. There is outside seating, but only the bravest of us would sit out there in the cold.
It was quite a while before our breakfast arrived as it was so busy, but it was worth the wait. The presentation was lovely, and the taste did not disappoint. However, once the photo was taken, my baked beans got poured onto my plate! I'm not a snob when it comes to how I eat my food.
I even liked the tables. They had a bit of an industrial vibe to them.
It wasn’t until we came out that we realised it was open on Christmas Day! In fact, the only day they're shut is New Year’s Day. I can remember when I was young, everything closed down for a week. It's nice going out for Christmas lunch, but I think it's quite sad for the workers not having a proper break. Bah humbug!
Hi, @ellenripley, this is a good breakfast. My neighbour says that a really good coffee drinker enjoys coffee with a touch of sugar as well as without. 😃 And I think I agree with her, although sometimes I say, life is sometimes bitter enough not to sweeten the coffee. 🤣
Ha ha. Actually, I like sugar a little too much. I used to have three teaspoons in my coffee, but have managed to cut down to one. 🙂
Nice coffee shop. The food looks very good. I could do with a cup of coffee right now.
I'm sat in bed having my first cup of the day. 🙂
