Going to a coffee place, you'll surely prepare some cash to get a cup of coffee or more to lighten up your day. However, this coffee bean shop located in the southern part of Jakarta, Indonesia will expect you to prepare the opposite condition. Does it mean we can get free coffee there ? Certainly yess...and this place does really exist. The place called Dunia Kopi Santa, the name "Dunia Kopi" are the Bahasa language meaning "the world of coffee" with the service and range of products that they are offering certainly match with the name. Located in the semi basement floor of Pasar Santa (Santa modern market) in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, once you discover the shop, you will see wide range of beans from almost every region in Indonesia and some from for foreign are clearly displayed.

Busy workers taking orders, beans grinding, line of customers are the common view in the shop. However, walk a bit inside towards the left side of the shop there is one spot providing uncommon service. It's a mini coffee corner which is actually still part the shop, serving coffee for free to anyone in there whether you are customers who are buying beans or just simply passersby who come for coffee. Everyone can get free coffee...wow !! 😲

Americano, Espresso, cappuccino, Single-Origin... tell the barista what you want, and they will happily make it for you. The shop owner - Mr. Suradi often stays around to oversee the shop, greet visitors, and encourage passersby to stop by and have a coffee. Friendly, knowledgeable and always full of smile are the trademark character of Mr. Suradi. Once in my visit, he happily told me that in his shop you can take coffee as much as you want. 5, 10 or even more cups its all for free....as long as you can handle it, lol.

Below is the video link of Mr. Suradi friendly statement about enjoying free coffee in his place which I took last month (English subtitle is included). Also in the video, you can see he's offering me to try ristretto, a coffee shot almost like espresso but using less water.

I think that's what makes his roastery shop and coffee corner become famous and successful. I've been regular to this shop for about 3 years and the shop is always packed with visitors ranging from local coffee lovers, expats, tourists until public figures and government officials!! I read in an article that Swedish ambassador, Minister of Finance and Minister of Tourism used to come here for coffee and purchase beans.
Apart of that, they also supply to numerous cafes, restaurants and hotels in Jakarta. I wonder how much operational cost they spend to serve such unlimited cups of free coffee every day and do they even worry about the profit ? But, looking at the condition, I assume high profit is not their main concern, but their passion and dedication to scale up coffee culture are the main vision. By chilling and having free coffee in their place, people can relax and even mingle with each other for networking, this is a unique experience that might not found in general coffee shops. "Sharing, chill and togetherness are probably the vibe that this place has created. Anyway, I will definitely still going to be a regular to this shop. So, for you looking for a great coffee experience and for sure drink coffee for free, I encourage you to come to this place 😃

Aah so they also supply coffee to other places - was wondering what the "catch" was. This sounds like a very sweet initiative and probably a very smart marketing thing (I'm sure there's a great community around this place, as seems apparent from your post). Interesting. Thank you for sharing with us :)
Hi, yes I believe this is part of their marketing ideas. By giving free coffee with warm welcome, it helps them to build bonding and engagement with people, as well as creating awareness about how good their coffee is and the friendliness of the staff. This makes people willing to come back and recommend the place to others and I am one of those people actually hohoho. So, if you had any chance to visit Jakarta, do visit this place for coffee tasting and great experience.
