This morning, my 3-year-old son asked for roti canai, a classic Indian dish perfect for breakfast. It reminded me of the simple pleasures in life. After taking him down to our condo’s parking lot, I went to the nearby Indian shop called Mamak to get the food, this shop is new just 8 months open, but its convenient to us since just down our condo where we stayed. My son favorite shop after church he always like to eat here and really he ate nicely no dramas, that’s the good thing because we also can eat nicely no need to entertain him. So today I give him a treat as he requested I bought for them for breakfast from this shop. As I stood there ordering, I realized I hadn't had my coffee yet, so I decided to add a cup of tarik—Malaysia’s signature brewed coffee—along with the roti. While waiting for my order, I asked for just one piece of roti canai. When it arrived, I felt an unexpected wave of enjoyment. It had been weeks since I’d had this kind of breakfast, and I forgot how satisfying it could be. There’s something special about having breakfast alone once in a while, a moment of peace just for myself.

As I sipped on my coffee, I let the aroma fill the air. It was one of those moments when time seemed to slow down. The simple routine of having roti canai and tarik reminded me that happiness often comes from the little things. We’re so busy chasing after big goals and complex routines, but there’s something grounding about slowing down to enjoy the present. Today’s breakfast felt like a reset for me, a way to reconnect with myself. It wasn’t extravagant or complicated, but it was enough. I realized that taking the time to enjoy something as simple as coffee and roti canai can be deeply fulfilling. Life doesn't always have to be about more. Sometimes, it's the simplicity that brings the most joy.
